I love this actor and the character, Sal. Did you see him on the preview reading his Playboy and then holding forth on the Loretta Young Show? Oh, Sal, you are so dear. Do you still have Ken's lighter?

Just saw Bryan on Martha (never watch her but did today to see what "Sal" would cook up!) He mixed "classic cocktails" with Martha...Manhattans and Rob Roys. Also helped her make some "classic h'ors deurves (sp?) water chestnuts wrapped in bacon...looked good, they said they were anyway. He talked about his furnishings, gifts & accessories shop, "Hazelnut" in New Orleans he owns with his partner, Tom. I went to it's website and it looks really ecclectic and cool. He brought Martha a tray (I think it was) covered with toile fabric from his shop... it was pretty. I think he said his shop is on Magazine Street.
He was dressed just like Sal would be said his clothes were from Brooks Brothers and they looked it...talked about Sal's "man crush" on Ken...and said Sal "gets those now and then...but it IS 1962..." guess that means Sal is staying firmly in closet.
He talked about how happy they all were their little cable show has done so well. He was elegant and entertaining. hope the clip turns up on Youtube.

Oh...Thanks Sharon for the notice! I would have missed it if I hadn't seen your post!

Did you see BB on Martha? Much like Sal, he appears to be a sophisticated, artistic gentleman.

I work at Saks 5th Ave. and know an older, gay guy there who knows Bryan Batt personally. He's supposed to be a really nice guy (gay, naturally).

You know, there has always been a gay community in New York (and other big cities too). I don't think it would be implausible for Sal to "come out" in the 1960's. Plenty of other gay men did.

I remember reading about Judy Garland's historic concert at Carnegie Hall (which I think was in 1962) and it spoke about her enormous following of gay men back then.

If they could do it, why not Sal?
