The Mountain King
Truely enjoyed this episode. Especially in light of the fact that it is, sadly, the next to the last episode of this season. (Please, please AMC can you give us more episodes next season?!?) One of the things I really appreciated about this episode was that it gave us such a good insight into so many of the characters before giving us the last episode of the season. I enjoyed seeing Dick's emersion; being able to finally be in a safer and more comfortable atmosphere. That place where we really got to see a softer, even happier self. And I smiled at the end when Dick Whitman finally began to wash Don Draper away, even if just a little bit at a time.
Hopefully, Joan will wake up and tell that asshole fiance of hers to f--- off. She is so much smarter than that. And go Peggy! I've been so proud of her for moving on (so to speak) and pushing forward for what she wants. Even Pete seemed happy for her.
But poor Betty, girl is struggling. It's as if her attitude is"if I'm not going to be happy and have what I deserve, then no one is going to be happy". Too bad. Because her behavior is really getting, well, sad! If it's not the almost inappropriate situation with the neighbor kid, then it's the sometimes on, sometimes off (and drunk) way she deals with her children, or it's the very nasty set-up she put poor Sarah Beth through. I really hope she will pull through this bad slump, and at least try to find some happiness. Bitterness isn't pretty on anyone, not even Betty.
And finally, I must say that my heart just went out to Burt. And though we don't really know the outcome yet, I certainly hope that that slimeball Duck gets what's coming to him.
But as always, thank you Mad Men for giving us the best television show in a very long time!!

Agree that MadMen is the best show on TV. Hope the money and sponsorships roll in for more than 13 episodes in Season 3.
this time period was before the self help books hit the market before Phil Donahue
it would be nice if Betty is the one to catapult the self help move
I just adore her daughter too and it looks like they are going to be equals and perhaps her daughter will save her
Thank you Ann for posting. I'm a big Bert Coooper fan and it just broke my heart when the camera panned out and we saw him left there alone at his desk, probably wondering "What have I done?"
I disagree about Betty. I think she's gotten stronger and more independent. As we saw last Sunday, she's at least out of her nightie. She's paying the bills, disciplining the kids, making decisions. She acts like the adult instead of the child. If Dick/Don returns home, he will not be coming home to the same Betty.
In the ocean, Is he washing away Don Draper? Or Dick Whitman? Which one is he trying to forget?
Laurie I have to agree wholeheartedly with your take on Bert. I can only hope he has a change of heart. SC is interesting enough to me as is. The dynamic of Brit oversight reminds me of a personal work situation where our small, well respected company was "merged" with a larger, aloof corporation. Never was the same after that.
Betty to me seems much different since Don left - the kids need strength now, which is good. I just hope she can focus and continue to be strong. Who knows when she will see Don again...
LOVE the last ocean scene with Don/Dick. Tied in the Christian thread from Popsicle and the SC staff's longing for California nicely.
