The Inheritance
I think that Peggy's love child might be Pete's. The way he looks at her all the time. And she had a child with a married man. Wouldn't that make it interesting that Pete's mom wants a "natural" child to inherit the family $$ and not an adopted one...he'll have one. Would be interesting.

There's no "think" about it. Peggy only had sex with Pete. It's his kid. The problem is, there is no inheritance. Dad spent it all. The boys are having to sell the land in order to have enough money to maintain mom in style till her passing. And after that, they get pretty much zilch.
Whether Peggy will (1) even admit she has a child, and (2) decide to tell Pete it's his remains to be seen. But keep in mind, there was no DNA tests in those days, only blood tests. So there's (3) Pete deciding to accept that the child is his and admitting to his infertile wife that he had sex and a child with another woman.
None of those three are guaranteed.
pete was not yet married when peggy dragged him into her apartment for what appears to be the impregnation. as for peggy only having sex with pete, she told joan sternly that she was not a virgin. don knows of the child and perhaps has been told who the father is. that is keeping pete quiet on who the real don/dick is.
The title of this show should be: "Things are not Always what they Seem". Lots of stuff here is merely assumption.
We assume Pete and Peggy had sex during Episode 1, but how do we know for sure? Sure, Pete showed up at her place after his bachelor party, but how do we know he didn't crawl into her bed and pass out? He was PRETTY drunk. How do we know Peggy hadn't had sex with anyone else around that time?? Remember she put her hand on Don's her first day of work; it's like she was hot to trot there for awhile.
Peggy and Pete had sex on the couch in Petes Office remember!
We assume Pete and Peggy had sex during Episode 1, but how do we know for sure?
As said, we saw Peggy have sex with Pete, so yes, we know for sure they had sex. I really doubt that the writers/creators of this show would screw around with us and say, "Ah! But we never showed you Peggy having sex with....SAL!" Or something ridiculous like that.
If the storytellers wanted us asking "whose baby is it?" they would have shown Peggy having sex with others. Then we'd be wondering. If they only show her having sex with Pete, after which she immediately gets fat...and 9 months almost to the day delivers a baby, then it's pretty clear and the story isn't "Whose baby is it?" the story is, "Will Pete ever learn about it?"
Also, before you even consider Don as the dad, keep this in mind: the one constant that we've seen with Don is that he never, never, never has slept with his secretary; with any secretary come to that. He's had three personal secretaries, and we've never seen him even flirt with them--and certainly Jane would have been happy to accommodate him there. Everyone in that office flirts and has sex with the secretaries--but Don's been remarkably hands off there.
So,I don't think there are any twist, turns or tricks here. It's Pete's baby. BUT Paternity tests at the time were not always accepted in a court of law. So even if Peggy said, "He's the dad!" Pete could, if he wished, deny it and probably get away with denying it. Likewise, if Peggy said Pete wasn't the Dad, her word would probably be accepted.
Yes Madfor, they did it in Pete's office...
I loved it when Trudy showed up unannounced for lunch with Pete and he was so flustered and angry with her....loved when she walked over to sit on the couch (where he and Peggy had done it that very morning) and he snatched the cushion just in time and turned it over before she sat down! So totally Pete!
I still think Peggy was pregnant by Anita's husband (!) (or the old boyfriend/Utz Chips truck driver) before she even showed up at SC. I know it's going out on a limb but that's what I think. But, I would like it better if the kid was Pete's and there was a good juicy plot thread about he and Trudy adopting him and finding out later on he really is Pete's biological son...maybe if there was some medical crisis that called for a blood relative's organ, blood, etc.,---- and Peggy felt compelled to tell Pete for the sake of the kid's life. Wow, I need my MM fix...about this time every week I get spacy! lol
Peggy's baby is a toddler by now and was probably adopted as an infant so no longer available for Pete and Trudy to adopt. I see a lot of posts about this but just don't think it's reasonable. Just doesn't make sense that a Catholic baby boy goes to an orphanage( or any newborn really). The Church would likely find him a good Catholic home, don't you think? Probably why the young Father knew she had a boy?
We don't know that Don knows about the baby. She was in the psych ward by the time he showed up. He might know or might not-it was never made clear. We didn't see what happened that even caused him to visit her-did her mother call him and what did she say? Did he find her in the hospital somehow on his own? She just didn't come to work and then? Him telling her to say what they want to hear seems to indicate he is talking about her having mental problems and how to get out of there. He never said anything that alluded to a baby.
