Mad Men the Movie

Exactly how long is a season of shows 4-6 episodes? Is MM a summer fill-in thing?Or did Jon Hamm's acting put me to sleep for an ENTIRE "real" season? Well, I was thinking since MM has such a dedicated following like "Sex in the City" then why dont they go the movie route? I'm sure the actors would make more money, and get movie credit on their resumes, (that some may not have) People were talking about Sex in the City " the sequel" opening weekend of the movie! Most importantly, I thinking with a larger budget, and good editing, the show might make a little more sense.

Well, I find this show makes perfect snse, even when it doesn't. The actors are excelllent, the sets divine, and the storyline is fascinating and keeps a person guessing as to just what is going to happen next and why. I have derived enormous enjoyment out of viewing Mad Men, and I am suffring serious miffage at the thought of having to wwait months and montts on end before it comes back to us.

Mat Weiner said that he originally wrote the as a movie but realized that the story was much to long and drawn out for a movie.

.....Jon Hamm could most definitely carry a feature and I would be surprised if in fact this doesn't launch a great film career. Choosing wisely is the key I think.

I wouldn't rule out a Mad Men cinema film in the future.

Actually, NOW would be good!!

Some things are meant to be as they were intended. The Sex in the City feature was entertaining, but honestly? it would've been just fine as a feature length movie for TV. Certain things lose their intimacy on the big screeen and conversely, big stories are diminished on the small screen. Mad Men is enhanced by the intimacy of television. But, never say never....stranger things have happened...can you say Starsky and Hutch, the Movie?!!!

okay..... but no one mentioned how many episodes were in a season?

Don't people also say the same thing when a best selling book is made into a movie? How many times have you heard that the movie didn't compare to the book? Also, I don't imagine that an ensemble cast (and they are adding characters constantly) are making BIG HOLLYWOOD BUCKS! I'm just guessing, but wouldn't BOX OFFICE be a bigger payday?

p.s. especially since you love them so much......

dry: Jon Hamm is a one dimensional actor, and his best scene was when he tied-up Bobbie because you got the real feeling he'd really have no problem with that. Now, either its true, or he acted his ass off! but for me that was one scene outta 2 seasons.

"Sex AND the City" was one of my favorite series when it was on HBO but the movie was a borefest. I don't think MM would do a movie until the series was done and would probably have the same result- a movie just can't replicate the anticipation that builds in a series. Hopefully, the series will end on a high note, many years from now!, and they will just leave it at that.
Not that I wouldn't go to the movie if they made one. Hopefully, they wouldn't put out some garbage just to make money like SATC.
The episodes are numbered so you could easily answer your own question. Lucky 13.

Here's another idea:

MM the Movie I (an ongoing series of films) about the years between Seasons in the series. We have the series to show the years 1960 and 1962. So there could be a 1961 movie - what happened to Don, Betty and the SC gang in 1961.

Filming the movie in the "dead time" during the year (i.e. while not filming the series) could be perfect. Two-four months to prepare, one-two to film and one to edit, starting as soon as the Season ends. One month in theaters while writing and filming the beginning of the next season. Busy, busy, busy but still the odd month or two for play.

Wouldn't that be totally cool? "MM the Movie - 1961". "MM the Movie - 1963" etc. Could get an Oscar(s) and an Emmy(s) in the same year for the movie and the series with the same settings/actors.

Never been done before. Star Trek was close but even the Next Gen movie was after the series ended its seven-year run.

chocolatecherry - there were 13 fabulous episodes in season 1 and after tomorrow night there will be 13 equally fabulous episodes in season 2.

No, MM is not a "summer fill-in thing." It is an original series for AMC. And the first basic cable series to win an Emmy!

It doesn't sound like you like MM so why do you watch it and spend your time on this board?! That is like people putting a "Nobama" sticker on their car if they don't support Obama. Why would you bother with something you don't like? I just don't get that mindset.

.....Ritt....That's a good idea too. But they'd better get on it, or they're going to have to call it "OLD Mad Men!"
