Losing respect for the Joan character
In the begining, Joan was sharp! and the kinda together chick most women dreamed of being. Now she's an insecure idiot that rambles on about her boyfriends accomplishments. I can't see her character getting back the respect and admiration she had initially.......MISS HENDRICKS "if your listening" now would be a good time to leave this show. "You've Played Your Part" , Now find something else.

I respectfully disagree. We are finally getting to see the human side of Joan, the real side of her that she doesn't show to the rest of the world. Now that she is a victim, we get to see if she can rise to the challenge and get out of this horrible abusive relationship. I feel the best storylines for Joan are yet to come.
While you were losing respect for the Joan character, did you miss that she was raped by her fiance? By babbling about his accomplishments, she was reminding herself what a "great" man he is - that what happened to her shouldn't count in the larger scheme of things.
Not to sound like an after-school special, but it's pretty classic behavior for victims of abuse or trauma of any kind to go from being confident and outgoing to insecure and apologetic.
I love this character and the actress. Terrible things sometimes happen, even to the strong and confident - that's reality as well as fiction.
I think that is the point that the writers are trying to make...that someone who seems so put together and in control can be the most vulnerable behind the scenes.
Joan is still a very hot, sharp woman. Smart and beautiful. Her boyfriend is a jerk...and that scene showed what a powerful acress Christina Hendricks is.
Joan is a trophy. Joan is well aware of the power she has.(girls with boobs in the 7th grade even know that) what the character is coming to realize though, is that beauty may get your foot in the door, but it dosen't guarantee advancement.(peggy) In Joans personal life the doctor is the "trophy" and "he", like Joan realizes it. Joan is gonna take what he dishes-out...and like it! (he'll be tying her up next season.... lol ) Joan has used her beauty/sexuality mixed with a no nonsense attitude (in order to not be a joke) and her time is running out. She needs the doctor to validate who, and what she is.( A whore could type 40 words per minute and keep a job, but if the same whore could marry a doctor she would be transformed instantly into a prominent member of society, especially back then when female roles were more defined.
p.s. remember the KRAMDENS?
I disagree, too. I love the Joan character and can't wait to see where the writers will take her next - hopefully away from her loser fiance. But maybe not because they are trying to portray the realities of the early 60's.
I'm Joans/Christina Hendricks biggest cheerleader, and fan but I will not want watch her character demoralized on MM. If thats where the story is going ...I'll watch Dancing with the Stars.....
I can't believe what I just saw? Read!
Joan was just raped by her fiancé and you are calling her an idiot!
This is 1962 not 2008. She is a 30 plus women unmarried that was just humbled beyond measure at work. Marriage is her path to have some significance in her life. She has shown her vulnerability over and over the last two seasons if you cared to notice.
I am questioning if Greg is really the high powered doctor in training he proclaims to be. If he is then why is he so intimidated by the men in the firm? He is the one with Joan on his arm. I can’t believe the post. That was an absolutely gut wrenching scene. Horrible. MISS HENDRICKS can’t help that is beautiful. Please giver her some credit for being a damn fine actress.
Its less painful to watch! well sometimes... hmmm (Cloris Leachman)...eeeeeek! LOL
HOLD THE PHONE!!! Maybe my eyes were fooling me, but didnt Joan just drag her ass into work after being in bed with the DR.all nite? Not to mention STRADDLING his ass trying to take control sexually.Yes, he took him some choochie, the same choochie she was slinging hours earlier.Only this time he was on top,and they were on the floor. I love the character Joan, and its not because she comes off as "the virgin," but because she knows (knew) her way around men at a time in history when it was simply a "mans world" I respected the character because she did what she had to do with no regrets. Now, it seems as if the character has forgotten who she is. Let me gently explain...... It was CHOOCHIE! not a LOBOTOMY!
chocolate: Um, I don't know, you seem to be talking out of both sides of your mouth about Joan. And, Coochie? Ewwww! Is this some street terminology? It kind of sounds as degrading as when people referred to Don Draper's mother as a "whore," and Anna as "lame," and "crippled." This appeared on some other threads. I am not trying to be politically correct here but I think sometimes there are better ways to state something. No offense. Anyway, yes, Joan was all sexy the night before, but obviously was saying "no" to her fiance in the office and he went ahead against her will at that moment. You say she did what she had to do at that moment. Fine. I am not really sure if you are ridiculing her or championing her. It seems you are doing both.
ONETWOTHREE: CHOOCHIE CHOOCHIE COO.......REAL STREET!!...... Now what are you really trying to imply? That I'm a Nigga, and that you're better, and above everybody else? Sorry, but your wrong on all accounts, so you can take that crap elsewhere. I was responding to a previous poster JIMBOBOB.My thoughts and opinions are MY thoughts and opinions, and unlike many I dont feel the need to justify them to every Tom, DICK, and Harry. However, TODAYS YOUR LUCKY DAY! you have been NOMINATED POSTS MODERATOR...... GOOD LUCK!
Chocolate: Calm down. No one is implying anything or asking you to justify anything to anyone. I don't care Who or What you are, but I think what that is is totally hysterical over nothing. Your capital letters denote screaming. Calm down! You seem to wear your heart on your sleeve (at least from other postings I have read from you, and even when someone agrees with you, you turn around and bite them in the behind);I think you are always up for a good fight, like so many on this board.
Don't worry, you're so hysterically scary and out of control, I will never pass your way again. I will spend the rest of the day hoping you'll remove the state of Colorado from your up your butt, however I don't think that is likely.
Wait, let me rephrase, "Remove the state of Colorado from up your butt." Yes, chocolate, that's it. A thousand pardons, I made a small typo in my posting above to you. Anyway, I doubt you will remove it so anyway, try and have a nice day anyway.
Don't try and clean it up.... anyone who reads the post knows exactly what you meant. I refuse to take it any further. I dont argue, and would love to be reintroduced to anyone that I've argued with. Sorry, but you're wrong again! Hope you win as POSTS MODERATOR!..... GOOD LUCK!
chocolate: Ok, since you want to hear that you're militant and completely crazy, you are! Enough said.
I don't understand where this is coming from. Joan was just raped at her place of employment - have you head of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome?
That's obviouly what she's suffering from. The looks on Christina Hendricks' face when she was having that conversation with Peggy were just wonderful and I thought conveyed many nuances about the suffering/struggling that Joan was undergoing at that time. I had the distinct impression that she wanted to open up to Peggy about what had happened. Then, when The Boys came along, Joan's entire demeanor changed and she was all business again - whipped out "Yes, he called and wants you all to go back to work."
Christina continues to deliver excellent performances and I'm looking forward to how the writers' develop her character in the coming episodes. Please let Dr. Greg fall in love with a nurse - like that crazy psych nurse in One Flew OVer the Cuckoo's Nest, which is what he deserves - and free Joan!
Chocolatecherry and Onetwothree, please kiss and make up - there's enough infighting in the Big Thread - let's not do it here.
Chopin: I find that when something doesn't concern you, it's probably best to stay out of it. Just a suggestion. Don't try and play peacemaker. It isn't worth it. Enough said.
Onetwothree: OKAY?.......AND?............ WHATS YOU'RE POINT?
chopin47: I don't argue with these people are you kidding me? but i "do call-out," then its up to whoever reads the post to draw their own conclusion. Personally, I think its kinda funny to "call-out" someone, and watch their reaction as they squirm, because they didn't get away with a condesending comment. As you can read, now "I'M" the militant..... LOL
ChocCherry: I have noticed that all your initiatied threads are very negative about whatever you're addressing (Don, Joan, etc.) I certainly will not "call you out" on why you still watch the show, but it does seem that you enjoy flaunting your negativity to everyone here, hoping to get a reaction. I for one will be ignoring everything you write from now on, since it is obvious that you're just writing to stir things up.
LOL .... LAURIE B!......GLORY B!....I'LL JUST DIE I DECLARE!........ JUST DIE! ........I'VE READ YOUR POST TOO,AND GUESS WHAT? YOU'RE NO MISS CONGENIALITY EITHER....ON A PERSONAL NOTE: YOU HAVE NOTHING THAT I WANT, AND THAT INCLUDES YOUR WORTHLESS OPINION MADAME. HAVE A NICE DAY!

Onetwothree, you are posting on a public board - everything you say affects all of us who post here. You are just as unreasonable as your opponent. Exchanges like this are going to drive people away from this board. That is my concern because I have been here a long time, back when the forum was still a civil place.
Good day to you.
Chopin: I agree with ONETWOTHREE on this...MIND YOUR OWN F------ Business! Most people that post here have NO LIFE, so dont worry about who gets "driven away" there are plenty of "LOSERS" to go around! Now is that real enough for you?
Wait a second, I must be in the wrong place.
LOL
