EP 13 Ending ?

3rd to last scene-

Bert Cooper- Duck come into my office.

Duck- Do you want to discuss the merger ? When do you leave for Montanna ?

Bert- Duck, I haven't informed our English counterparts yet, but we have decided to withdraw from the merger. We want to continue running SC in its current form. During negotiations we realised that our vision for SC is vastly different than what the Brits envision.

Duck- But But we have a deal ! You are crazy to back out. You'll be a rich man and SC will increase in stature.

Bert- When we brought you in we expected you to increase business. While business has improved somewhat, your projections were not met. During this episode it has become obvious that your loyalties are not to SC

Duck (cutting off Bert)- I have tried to take SC into to the big league of ad firms. I have tried to get international accounts on board. Why do you want to stay a small provincial and backward looking firm ? The world is passing you by and all you can do is wave ?

Bert- Duck your services are no longer required here. We will give you a generous severance pacakge, though not as lucritave as your finders fee would have been....

Duck- So that's what this is all about.

Bert- Loyalty is a curious thing and I am no longer certain were yours lay. Good bye Duck.

Almost final scene.

Joan- Greg I have great news !

Greg- What Joanie ?

Joan- I've been promoted at SC ! I am now working with Harry at the office to make sure that we buy appropriate ad time for clients. I move into an office and get a raise !

Greg- That's great Joanie, but I told you that once we're married, you'll stay at home. I thought this was settled.

Joan- Greg, I'VE BEEN PROMOTED. Aren't you happy for me ? I am no longer a secretary.

Greg- And after we're married, you'll no longer be a secretary because you will be my wife.....I'm on call in the morning. I need to get some sleep. Are you coming to bed ?

Joan is silent and follows him to the bedroom. The go to sleep, backs facing- eyes open.

Final scene before the closing song and credits:

D- Betty, sit down. We need to talk.

Betty- What now Don ? Can't you see what you are putting us through ? I know you are lieing, I know you cheated. You walked out and I'm the bad one here. Sally blames me for this. Imagine that. How do you think I feel ?

D- Betz, I have something to tell you, something I need to tell you. My name is not Don Draper.

Betty- Huh !?!?!?!?

Song starts, Credits role.

S-3 opens with footage of the Beatles landing at Idelwild Field and I Want to Hold your Hand playing in the background.

Betty, Dick/Don are married with -3- children. The youngest is just about 1yr old. Don is now Co Pres of SC; equal with Roger. Creative is his, Accounts belong to Roger.

Roger and Jane have parted. Roger and Mona are still not divorced, but relations are still cold.

Peggy is Don's right hand.

Peter has moved up the food chain and has continued to bring in business.

Harry reports to both Don and Roger, but his position is growing in profile and importance.

Joan works for Harry- and is single again.

Paul is still a poseur and resents essentially reporting to Peggy.

Sal is still in the closet. He and Kitty have had a child.

Duck has flown south for the winter, never to return.

Sorry, but these monster posts are getting so long I just don't have time to schlep through them. I think perhaps postings should be no more than say 500 characters long. Otherwise, they are just too long!

Oh lighten up TBOE,

I thought it was a pretty damn creative post, rl1856!

Sheeeeeeeesh.

rl1856, Wow I'm very impressed. I like where your storyline is going. You should apply for a job as one of the MM writers. Very creative.

TBOE:
I agree 500 words is too long. *IF* it's all one or two paragraphs. I totally lose my place while reading huge blocks of print. Break them up into bite-sized paragraphs, no problem.

This I liked. But rl1856, you forgot to mention that Ken, Hildy and Allison have a "relationship" which broke Sal's heart. :-)

RL - Fantastic! I agree that they should hire you. Isn't it scary how this stuff gets in your head? How these folks are now "real?" Your posts can be as long as need be when they are that good!

Ritt - who's Allison?

user-pic

NancyStowOH:
Allison's the secretary Ken chased down in the Nixon vs. Kennedy episode in Season One and who he escorted away from the center of attention. She also came out of his office the following morning about the same time Hildy came out of Harry's office.

Thanks, Ritt - she's the one who had on white underwear but they thought it would be blue? And she said something about stupidly thinking she'd find a husband there or something, right?

user-pic

Her underwear was blue... Yup, that's the one.

Newsday has a review of the season finale, grade A. Check it out at http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/tv/ny-ettel5894388oct24a,0,1694873.column

Rl1856: What a fun thread! All great predictions. I too predicted a couple episodes ago on some thread that the JFK assassination will only be referred to and we'd pick up Season 3 in February 1964 with the arrival of the Beatles. However, I think the song will be "I Saw Her Standing There".

Another thing: Opening with the Beatles invasion is also significant to Sterling Cooper. Being taken over by the Brits.

Auburn Annie - thanks for publishing the link. I watched Elisabeth Moss' interview and read the review. Betty has big news? As much as I'd like to say she's pregnant, that feels too obvious. I keep going back to Betty telling Sally that she wants to give her the things she wants because she won't always be there to give her things. Does she think she's dying? Or does she think she's having another baby, which will thereby render her incapble of devoting as much attention to Sally (as if she devotes much to her now LOL!).

I know that Don and Betty will be back together and Don will return to SC. That's the core of the show. I think the merger will fall thru and Duck will be thrown out like Chauncey. We'll see him looking in the door right before he runs off. The Duck character just doesn't add anything to the show. With Duck gone, Pete can move up, and then Don and Pete will have more interaction.

I think we will find out at some point that Pete and Peggy knew each other prior to her first day at SC, and in fact, it was because of Pete that she came there. Either he suggested it, or she knew he worked there and she wanted to stalk him and get closer to him, as he was her true love. But alas, Peggy is not from money and the family would not have approved so he dumped her for a rich chick.

We should start a thread to compare/contrast Peggy and Trudy. Trudy wants a baby; Peggy gave one up (we think). Trudy wants to be the traditional housewife and mother; Peggy wants to be a man. Trudy's father is the main man in her life; we have no idea where Peggy's father is.

What else?
