Duck

I think Duck is going to quack up
sriously I think he is a loose canon and in the previous episode where he just let his dog run loose is a sign of bad things to come

The preview shows Duck drinking again. I'm afraid that he may be the one to go out the window.

His comeuppance for being unsympathetic towards Freddy Rumsen?

Too bad, 'cause I really like his character.

Hi cad men! Ya had to bring up the Chauncey scene again!!!

Hi Gail Klein! Interesting preview...maybe you are right about Duck. Do you think he got some bad news about Freddy, and that sent him over the edge? I still think Freddy is going to drink himself to death, or commit suicide.

On the lighter side, did anyone hear Don refer to Crab in last weeks episode? Who needs "Duck" when you have "Crab"?

user-pic

I have thought all along that Duck is a secret drinker - the night he betrayed Chauncey, I am convinced he went into that office thinking it was empty just so he could drink some of the liquor.

user-pic

I hope Chauncey is okay. A good looking well cared for dog might find someone ready to take it home.

I think the falling scene in the beginning of the show is like falling in a dream. I found this on the net.

TO UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF DREAM ABOUT FALLING ASK YOURSELF:
1. Am I over ambitious? Perhaps you have 'climbed above your station' and experiencing the 'pride before a fall'. You may have to lower your sights somewhat and set yourself goals that are more realistic.

2. Do I fear letting go? The dream may be urging you to stop resisting an impulse from the unconscious. The psychologist Strephon Kaplan-Williams suggests that you should relive the dream in your imagination and let the fall complete itself. In this way, you find out what is frightening you. You 'get to the bottom' of the problem.

**Spoilery Info**

According to spoilers, Duck will make some attempt at a "power play" while Don's away in the Jet Set episode. Duck's a washed up ingrate! Hate him!

I definitely think they are going to find out Freddy killed himself or died somehow. Duck has not been one of my favorite characters ever since the Chauncey incident. But I agree with Gail that he is a dry alcoholic who will drink again soon. I don't think he was drunk when he did that to Chauncey, so I think he could really be a nasty character if he drinks again.

Can someone help me? Do you remember the night Sal had dinner with, I think, a client. And the client made a homosexual pass at Sal? Who was that? He looked a lot like Duck, I think.

user-pic

tangfl:
The client was Elliot Lawrence from Belle Jolie, the lipstick account Peggy is writing the copy for after Freddy noticed her.

Ritt, thanks for the info. I remember the lipstick account.

Ah!....I just saw the preview blip showing Duck slurping a drink from a martini glass....OMG!!!
I wouldn't doubt he'd try a powerplay while Don's out of town. Don treated him rudely when Roger instructed both of them to go have lunch and 'make nice.' Duck was pretty defeated when Don left his office to meet up with Bobbie. Stuff like that always comes back to bite you.

Christine said the original storyline included one of the cast dying (S1 DVD), but the original victim (Harry) saved his character by being a real cast favorite. I believe someone in the cast will die this season as originally intended...and tend to fear it will be Paul and not Duck who fills the blank. We have learned enough about each character to have opinions on each that have already swung 180 degrees. Everyone except Paul.

I never have felt he was a great guy. I think we will be shocked into liking Paul through the circumstances surrounding the trip he taking with Sheila. Otherwise, we'll continue to believe him merely a pompous blowhard.

Duck had my good wishes as long as he was making the effort to not drink. To end his storyline all Duck need do is stumble into some alley and we'll still hate him. No more drama is required.

But, what is required to make you feel the opposite of how you feel now about Paul? Their are only a couple of things writers go to. Death is one of them. The two storylines may converge right there this Sunday night....

Hey 60's child don't be sad, if Polly (The Draper's dog) came back into the scene last week, we still have hopes for poor Chauncey!! I read something about the tension between the creativity and accounts departments in every advertising agency. It is because creativity dept. gets the client (which the client views as talent) and accounts have to collect from the client (once clients have the idea, it suddenly becomes "not worth the money"). The accounts dept are seen as money hungry thuds and creativity is seen as talented artists. So, the tension between Duck and Don sounds like it is pretty common in advertising agencies everywhere. Cheers! ;o)

Marilyn Monroe died August 5, 1962. How many weeks have passed in Mad Men land?

On September 30, 1962, riots erupted on the campus of the University of Mississippi in Oxford where locals, students, and committed segregationists had gathered to protest the enrollment of James Meredith, a black Air Force veteran attempting to integrate the all-white school. Despite the presence of more than 120 federal marshals who were on hand to protect Meredith from harm, the crowd turned violent after nightfall, and authorities struggled to maintain order. When the smoke cleared the following morning, two civilians were dead and scores more were reported injured.

I can not find a thing on the net that says who the two that died were.

There were countless unnamed men and women who went out to test the desegregation laws that had been recently upheld at the federal level. My conclusion was that the timeline is somewhere between the two dates you mentioned. I don't believe Weiner will be more specific with us about the date.

Paul and Sheila were going to 'register voters' in Mississippi, although the nations hotspots were in different states, I'm positive Weiner will create some drama surrounding their trip. I really hope they both survive it. This might be the place for a dramatic punch.

Duck is playing both sides against the middle and that's usually a recipe for disaster. I think Roger might be aware that he is up to something, but Roger is distracted by his divorce and his hormonal urges for Baby Jane, so I think it's up to Don to save the company when he gets back from California. After tonight's episode, I really don't care if the agency survives. I am on the verge of hating both Roger and Don. They are so superficial and self-indulgent. They each put pleasure before business and responsibility, so I hope they both suffer.

For what he did to that poor dog - I hope whatever it is Duck has coming to him hurts like bloody you know what. I feel a whole lot sorrier for Chauncey than I do for Freddie.

I agree with chopin47 that don will come back and save the day (possibly after sniveling worm Pete tries another power play - not that he shouldn't having been left holding the bag after Don took off to get his ashes hauled but...that's a story for another day).

To all who get so upset about Chauncy and rail endlessly at Duck for having turned him out on the streets of NYC, Folks, get a grip. It's a TELEVISION SHOW and the dog was not REALLY abandoned on the streets of NYC. And the idea that CKTV states that he or she feels a whole lot sorrier for Chauncy than Freddie, huh? Again, it's a TV show and Freddie is merely a character. However, if you really are feeling sorrier for a dog than some over-the-hill guy who is quite obviously an alcoholic (as is the doggone Duck, pardon the pun), and who was fired from his job, then you have a rather strange perspective! I think people get a little bit too involved with this show and its characters. It's entertainment and as such, should be solidly kept within that framework. Remember the story (a real occurrence) of the woman who began verbally abusing a soap opera actor in a restaurant? She was calling him by the name of his character and when he tried to tell he that he only PLAYED that character and was not at all like him, she began trying to bash him over the head with her purse! Like I said, people, get a grip before you find yourselves going off the deep end!

Lighten up figaro. Most posters were upset for the dog, mostly because of the images it conjures up regarding real life situations involving abandoned pets. It strikes a chord emotionally - like well written entertainment media is supposed to do. And it is hard to feel terribly sorry for someone who lets themselves go to the point where the pi$$ their pants at work.
