Don & Duck as the U.S. & the U.S.S.R.
Excellent parallels between what was happening in the SC board room and the Cuban missile crisis. Just as the U.S. did, Don called Duck's bluff, and it seems pretty obvious that Duck will skulk away with his tail between his legs. Apologies if someone posted about this already.
I don't think Duck is going to have a chance to recoup from his own detonation! Can't feature the Brits going for his meltdown behavior OR that Duck showed a personal vendetta against a particularly important member of the company who is also a junior partner with a lot of clout (Don). Not a great opening sequence to a merger when the lines of hostility have already been laid out so plainly by Duck. The Brits would want a smooth transition and the least amount of hassle in a merger take-over.
Yes! I caught it in Pete's words to Don when he went in to pass on the information about the merger and Duck Phillips. His parting words as he left the office were, "You know they stopped a ship this morning. I bet the Russians are reconsidering now that we've made a stand."
The exchange with Sal, Paul, Ken and Harry prior to Pete's discussion with Don pointed to regime change and being neutral because loyalists are always hung. Paul says, "Aren't you loyal to anyone?"
They're picking sides, Duck made a noisy stand and Don didn't flinch. Great insight Ricky!
