Aloma Wright

Aloma Wright was fantastic as Viola, Betty's childhood maid. Her work was complex, layered, compassionate, and grounded. It is a shame that we won't see much more of her (if at all) as the show moves forward...

Gerry: I find it interesting that with all the characters/actors in MM, even going back to season one, that the actors with lesser roles seem to make such deep impressions.

I'm thinking of the Hobo who left the message on the sign post for Dick/Don. Another is the elevator operator - sorry, I can't think of his name - who sees everyone and hears all the chatter and must remain stoic and unresponsive. And now we've met Viola who is a link to Betty's past. It was a beautiful performance by Ms. Wright. One can only imagine a much younger Betty seeking comfort and assurance from Viola when she couldn't go to her mother or father with a problem or situation she couldn't deal with. The scene with Betty and Viola reminded me of MEMBER OF THE WEDDING with the late, wonderful actress Ethel Waters.

Another character we've seen more of is Carla, who is possibly to Sally Draper what Viola was to Betty - a stable, no nonsense rock of security.

I hope we'll see more of Viola, but at least we got a glimpse of her and how important she was to Betty.

rozsie, Hollis is the elevator operator.

I loved her scene with Viola because I too had a wonderful lady that helped raise me. It brought back such wonderful memories to see them, and the security she obviously brought to Betty.
