Who originally wrote 'Caravan'?

Hi all,
I know Gordon Jenkins did this version, but I heard it's a remake? Who did the first one? Also...anyone know if there's a good genre you could put this one under? That sorta music is great but I don't know where to look for more.

Have you tried 60s Lounge or Ultra Lounge? I love that era as well. Perhaps Easy Listening/Standards would help? Great music to vomit by from Brenda Lee, no?

The genre "Caravan" would be under is jazz. It was written and performed by Duke Ellington many years ago. A lot of artists have recorded it including Billy Eckstine (with lyrics). In the 1950's in North Jersey, there was a disc jockey named Bill Cook who had a program "Cooky's Caravan" where the song was his theme song.
