Sterling and Cooper

What exactly was the meeting about with Don Sterling and Cooper?

Hi giveprops! On the surface it was probably about the Martinson's coffee account, but, it could have been about Jane breaking into the office, or about what Bert knows about Don.

Don was called in to be invited into the next level. Don was reluctant, humble in trying to share the credit, and had impressed one more client. Don may be moving up.

He'll be 'wearing his tuxedo a lot more' and 'philanthropy is the route to real power' were Cooper's cryptic comments. WTF? Don will now NEED Betty more than ever to be 'bright and beautiful' aka at Lutece for the Utz apology. He'd better start kissing some serious backside in the Betty department. But it ust be somewhat difficult since they are 180 degrees apart in every way that matters. She married the guy who looked like he was sent right out of central casting to fit the mold. She, of course, being the Sandra Dee/Shelley Fabares type, must be paired with a slightly bad boy but talented Bobby Darin type. I just love this show. I have vowed NOT to try to intellectualize it TOO much. This meeting with Cooper/Don (by the way, Cooper has done a D%B on Don AND knows all about Don's identity theft. Is yet another endorsement for Don to continue this elaborate charade which is his 'life'. Look what subterfuge and duplicity have brought him.........yeah, look indeed.

They're saying "welcome to the club, big guy - now go out and find new ways to make us more money".

I agree that Don will be needing Betty more for his social networking. The sad thing is, if his professional health is at risk because Betty won't be his arm candy, he might actually try to save his relationship.

Agreed. I thought the same thing -- Don needs Betty more than ever to be his "better half."

The problem is, she will want out of the marriage quite soon.

paperbackwriter - Sterling and Cooper are grooming Don for partner.

Don is already a junior partner as of last season. What they are doing is is grooming him to be the new, younger face of Sterling Cooper. Bert Cooper is old and may want to semi-retire and Roger Sterling is one heart attack away from the grave. Don has had to fly under the radar because of his background and now is being forced into the public eye for the sake of the Company.

Remember that it was just one picture in a trade paper that brought Adam in, imagine what entrance to Society could do to his cover.

This episode showed Cooper as more than a doddering old fool. He is a wisened professional, and astute businessman.

"...People buy things to realize their aspirations. It's the foundation of our business..." Fascinating....

Notice that maybe Harry has a budget now?! Didn't it sound like that's what they were doing?

One Trade paper picture brought back Adam and one used car circular haunted him back in '52. What will the society pages bring out of the wood work for Don?

We saw the uncomfortable look on his face during the Memorial Day salute to veterans. And his kids always asking about his past. Like he said to Campbell, "he didn't think this through…"

This is dangerous territory for him.
