Peggy gets a new Account! And it's YSL!

Imagine Peggy with Yves Saint Laurent as an account. YSL created their own label in 1962. Now she comes in only with designer clothes as she gets lots of perks!
Andre Courreges is the inventor of the mini skirt
Pierre Cardin was very popular then
Givenche
Pucci!!
Mary Quant

I say let's have an account with one of the fashion greats of the time and bring in more designer fashion to the show. (Not that their fashion is not fantastic already. But, the men are wearing Disigner $1,500.00 plus suits. Let the women also show off Great Designer clothes starting from Peggy. How could this play out?

I like it! I'm so over of her teeny bop persona.

user-pic

Hi Nora! Sounds great!
It kind of reminds me of Anne Hathaway's character's transformation in The Devil Wears Prada.

user-pic

Hi Nora! This is totally off topic... Where did wryter 1 go? I miss his posts, great sense of humor. You certainly don't have to share that info, but if he is Still posting please say hello! from me OK? Thanks

user-pic

Yeaaahhhhh, 60'schild,.....where ARE you, wryter1? We all really miss your funny, creative posts!

user-pic

60'schild,
wryter1 dumped his wife and we got married. We are now posting together under my name.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
I have no idea what happened to him. He used to protect me on the forum. Although, I can now stand on my own. It was nice to have him mentor me as a new blogger that I was. (This show turns people into all sorts of things). He once posted his website and that's how I was able to contact him back then. He's been gone so long I hate to bother him. He may want his privacy it seems. Or, maybe, he will be writing one of the upcoming episodes. He certainly could. Just hope he brings me in as one of his characters. He,he.

user-pic

I like your idea, Nora! You mention, Pierre Cardin...wasn't he the one Jackie Kennedy loved so much as her "own" designer?

user-pic

Peggy is not an account executive so it would be up to one of the guys to bring in the account for her to write copy for.

user-pic

Typos: Givenchy,designer
Hi scfan!
It was Oleg Cassini and that's another designer that made it big in the 60's because of Jaquelin Kennedy! We have to see Betty in a pill box hat and knit suit. Maybe that would please Drink & Smoke for a more sophistaced Betty.
Imagine Peggy with the first mini skirt!
Joan with palazzo pants and Pucci print!
The girls at the office with Mary Quant suits
The whole Sterling Cooper offices makeover. They need more space and make them more elegant with crystal chandeliers, satin padded walls, lots of marble and stunning mahogany furniture. After all, they are growing and must meet their clients with style!!

user-pic

Hapynzap,
She was just promoted in this immaginary thread!

user-pic

Gotchya Nora

I could see Jane in a mini-skirt

user-pic

Jane would love to be in a mini skirt!!!!!!!!

user-pic

Knowing Jane---she would also love to be the first model for Rudi Gernreich's (sp?) topless swimsuit!

user-pic

scfan,
Oh yeah, the monokini. Ha,ha. She would go prancing in that up to Cooper's office. Later, she would wear the pubikini (with open front show of pubic hair also by Rudi Gernreich) for Roger.

user-pic

Dear Lord, Nora...somehow I don't recall that one! (thank God) That Rudi guy was one messed up dude!

I don't know what kind of budget AMC is affording, since as scribe4hire just noted on Matt Weiner live that they had to do the train sequences in a Room! Amazing! But, anyway, I just don't like what the women are wearing lately. Joan at the meeting with clients. Her Green suit and her stewardes look when talks to Jane. They really look old and musty almost 40's & 50's look. Is the fabulous costume department running out of vintage clothes? I think they better start taking out their sewing machines and start clothing these ladies with copies of designer clother of the era!!! What do you think? Anyone?

user-pic

scfan,
I agree, Rudy was a "messed up dude".

user-pic

YES, Nora darling....Jaquelin Kennedy attire for our little Betty!! A pill box hat and knit suit - don't forget the pearl necklace and earrings. Jackie did have a way with fashion that women of the 60's loved. Bring it on!! ;o)

user-pic

I tried to sum up Betty's dinner party rag in Faran's forum "Comments"...I posted what it looked like to me, anyway! Betty's too gorgeous to be wearing junk (I don't care if the fabric WAS "expensive") like that...I agree with everyone here saying let's get some designer threads on these beautiful ladies!!

user-pic

Jackie K. made Oleg Cassini a household name, not Pierre Cardin.

user-pic

Oleg designed Jackie's gown for the inaugural ball. Stunning!

user-pic

And don't forget the makeup to go with the swingin' designer duds-false eyleashes, "cat-eye" eyeliner and frosted white lipstick and nails.

user-pic

Yeah, but you gotta remember that alot of those fashions did not happen until the mid to late 60s. I think we will have to wait for another leap forward in Season 3 for the ladies to lose some of those 50ish looking duds.

I think Joan's clothes are just plain awful - her clothes are too tight and the colors do not flatter her at all. Also, I seem to remember when I was a girl back in the day, one fashion rule was that redheads did not wear any shade of pink or red. There were alot of rules back then, and if you broke them, you were considered not well dressed. No mixing prints and plaids, no white after Labor Day, certain fabrics and designs were strictly for evening wear, hats and gloves were still big then, and your handbag matched your shoes.

Jackie Kennedy did a lot to drag women's fashions out of the 50s, but not overnight. There are lots of pictures of her with other women in the early 60s, and while she is her usual elegant self, mostly they are a step or two behind.

user-pic

yes, right the early 60's were still like the 50's. The clothing is a bit matronly, esp wicked Anita's.

user-pic

Laurie B.,
Yes I mentioned Oleg to scfan, (see 12 posts above you) but thanks for the input!
redhead64,
Oleg is one of my favorite designers! Wish they could copy some of his clothes on the show!
And, yes the makeup! I'm getting chill bumps!

user-pic

Oh Drink & Smoke,
You're so soooothing! I'm glad you like what Betty should be wearing!

user-pic

Zerelda,
You're right and let's hope they will step up the fashion on Season 3 (We are having a 3?), but in the meantime. Let's get these ladies something more exciting, more flattering. They are all beautiful ladies. We want to see them strut their stuff!!!

user-pic

Hi Nora. The clothes from the 60's and 70's were so well made and flattering. I loved reading my mother's fashion magazines as a kid and seeing Oleg and Halston designs. I shop consignment and find really great stuff and just alter it.

Night night all! ;)

user-pic

redhea64,
night night sleep well. Where do you shop?

default userpic

Joan looks cartoonish this year. What is sexy about having a baboon's ass? She looks like she's about to explode out of her girdle any minute. The only designer label on her clothes is "Fredrick's of Hollywood."

user-pic

@Nora: I shop at a local store where I live in FL called "A Star's Closet". I always stop into the higher end consignment stores in my travels. The prices are economical, so I usually buy the item and then it sits in my "to-do" basket for mending, etc. Occasionally, when an older woman dies here in Palm Beach County, her family will consign her clothes and that is a nice way to pass on her good taste. I have a few late 50's early 60's jeweled cardigan sweaters. I love vintage-NYC would be the ultimate for that shopping. The truly vintage stuff is getting harder to come by and is getting really expensive.

My local Hospice thrift store is slim pickin's but a few months ago, I found a nearly brand new Ralph Lauren light pink wool garbardine trenchcoat for $25.00! When I saw it I thought that it was soooo Betty Draper. So I plan to wear it with black pants and top underneath. Tres chic!

I highly recommend consignment esp with the tragic state of our economy and now we'll have to bail out Wall Street, we have to save every $$$.

user-pic

I adore shopping at thrift stores and consignment shops. You never know what you'll find. Also, surprisingly, antique/junk shops are occasional sources for great buys, especially vintage jewelry. I must say, when I started browsing in these places, there was not much competition, but that has changed. It's the economy, I reckon. Apparently we are going to hell in a handcart, but if so, why not a a really chic designer handcart bought for mere pennies, right?

user-pic

redhead64,
Are you in Palm Beach County? Do you watch "Privilege"? set there. I'm going to Orlando tomorrow. Is it hot still there? Wish we could meet but still too far away. Thanks for the infor and I can imagine what that coat will look like. WOW!

user-pic

Hi Nora: yes in PB County (Jupiter), or as I say, the "OC" of Florida. What is "Privilege"? It has been really nice here the past few days--lower humidity and breezy. I'm about 3 hours south of Orlando so I can't vouch for their weather! Of course as my husband and I are getting ready to relocate to NC (in December), the weather is no longer hot, sticky & gross.

Is your Orlando trip for work or personal?

user-pic

rehead64,
Thanks for the weather report. It's personal. And, I'm on my way now. Love all the posts. It's nice to meet you!

user-pic

have a safe trip!

user-pic

Hmmm... Apparently Yves St. Laurent was a major diva. I am not sure Peggy would last five minutes with him. I'm sure Sal would fare better. By the way, try shopping eBay for some amazing vintage clothing, but consider using this info: Many eBay sellers go to estate sales, garage sales, etc., and are not aware of the significance of certain designer names when they list the items for sale. Hence - low prices on gorgeous clothing. Do an Advanced Search, type in the name of the designer. NOW: Be sure to check the box for "title and description" and see what comes up. You'll find a lot of overpriced stuff, but every now and then you will locate some real gems. Go beyond the obvious stars of the era (Dior, Givenchy, Chanel, Balenciaga, etc.) and look for lesser known but supreme-quality houses such as Mollie Parnis, Pauline Trigere, Branell, Anne Fogarty, Claire McCardell and Bonnie Cashin. Enjoy!

I like your idea Nora. This would also allow Peggy to upseat Joan as head Queen B. Peggy wants to be successful badly.
