Paul Newman RIP

it would be nice if they mentioned Paul Newman as he would have been a rising star in 1961

They did, last season when they were pitching the Israeli tourism account--they mentioned the book, Exodus, and that Hollywood was making a movie about it with Paul Newman.

He could truly play a Southerner

....chocolatecherry, you must see "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," with Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman.

the politics and behaviors echo MANY families of the south, even today.

When I think of his body of work, a Southerner comes to mind, and yes I've seen many of his performances, and like his young protege Tom Cruise, he was basically a "face" a nice face, but a face.

I think newman would much rather be remembered for his charitable contributions through Newmans Own, then any of the mediocre acting rolls he played on screen

p.s. Newmans wife submitted a recipe to a magazine some years ago, (Grapefruit Cake) its one of the best cake recipes i've ever baked. Rumor has it that the Brown Derby served it on their menu, but guarded the recipe. Woodward loved the cake, but couldn't obtain the recipe from the chef at the restaurant. So she formulated her own recipe. Many who were fortunate enough to have tried both, say that Woodward's cake is better.

cadmen, thank you for your post! I also hope he is at peace.
I live in Connecticut, and know of his many charitable contributions. His "Hole In The Wall" camps are wonderful. From what I understand, he was a very generous man, yet humble about it. I think that is one of the reasons I admire him most.

Also, those blue eyes!!! And, "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid!!"

I just had a thought (scary I know!), if SC was around today maybe they would have pitched "The Newman's Own" brand!!
OK, time for breakfast, I think my blood sugar must be getting low!!

I started reading about Paul Newman's cancer battle last year just by glancing at the tabloids and it seemed like it made other headlines so I figured it must not be true and so now I guess that is one thing I can thank them (the rags) for is preparing me and the world for the inevitable

but it is still devastating

I meant to say that it didn't make other headlines (I wish we had an edit option)
