Why doesn't Betty make Don confess???
It is maddening(pun intended!!!)

Probably only bringing Adam back from the dead would make "Don" confess if even that would.
Because Don IS maddening. When he brought the kids home, and suggested that he move back in, Betty probably thought she was looking at a brick wall. He even asks," What do you want from me?"
Huh?? (Well, Don, I'd begin by reviewing our wedding vows except that would take too long for you to fully understand). He's hopeless right now...truly doesn't care. Yet he DOES care about drunk, pants-peeing Freddy. He showed Freddy more real warmth than I've seen him display to ANYONE!! Why??
I agree Jolie 10. I am a little peived at Mr. Weiner for not tieing the show together a little better...this "affair thing" in libo is very frustrating.
Betty's moping and Don's denial is too unrealistic.
Betty's not stupid. She knows that if Don truly loved her and wanted to get back together, he'd have made "the grand gesture" and the "grand promises" as Roger suggested. The fact that Don said he wouldn't "talk her into anything" tells her that he just doesn't care enough to fight for her and the kids.
I agree Laurie B. Don really doesnt care anymore. Whenever Don gets found out on something or bullied into something he leaves, or decides to continue to lie and get out of the situation, hence I am relieved comment to Roger. I do however think that he still harbors feelings for Betty and the kids. I mean in the season opener "For those who think young" when Betty is gliding down the stairs you see him entranced by her, almost proud, and of course adoring. And in the season finale of season 1 you see the picture of him and betty kissing at new years, and you could see that Don is thinking wth am I doing, trying to leave all this behind. He does have feelings, but of course Don, doesnt like to reveal them to anybody, especially those who love and care for him. I still have this gut feeling that Don is going to end up alone. Everyone around him is going to be happy, healthy, and he is going to be miserable and alone.
You're right Polignac. Don is doomed to be miserable and alone unless he changes somehow. What will it take? He doesn't response to threats. He does respond when someone needs him at home or work. There may be some plot twist that throws Don back to Betty because Betty (Sally and Bobby) need him.
It occurred to me that Don and Rachel may have gotten together over the weekend??? Is there a connection with the shirts that Jane purchased at Menckens??? Is that why Don uses Rachel's husband's name at the gambling hall???
She can't make him confess because no one can make Don Draper do anything he doesn't want to do. He'll deny it to his grave, most likely. He's going to pretend that the affairs didn't happen (remember, he told Peggy to pretend like her pregnancy didn't happen, something about it would surprise her "how much it never happened."). That's not to say he won't try to make it up somehow to Betty if he really wants to get her back and feels that there's no other way to get her.
I also disagree that Betty's and Don's behavior are unrealistic. I'm glad to see Betty feeling all that pain so deeply after years of repressing her emotions. And Don is a stubborn guy who will never confess, because to him, if he never admits it, he can somehow avoid taking responsibility for it. I honestly wouldn't expect anything less from the two of them.
Can anyone ever "make" someone else "do" something, especially just because they want it? No. It has to be Don's choice, and he ain't making it.
I don't know if his lack of confession indicates uncaring, as much as it's fear tied to the fake identity issue. That fear overrides any feelings about Betty or even the kids. It's a very real and immovable stumbling block for him.
Does he give up his whole life and the identity tied to it to keep Betty and the kids? There's no guarantee that his confession of infidelity AND his identity will save his marriage. Betty might surprise us all if she had the whole story and dump him, rather than standing by him (especially after the revelation that he's not Don Draper, but Dick Whitman, ultimate imposter).
