Mad Emmy Fever!

For the first time in a long time, I can't wait for the Emmys! Anyone else psyched? I'll be wearing my 1960's style flowered hat and white gloves!!

I'm with you. I can hardly wait and I just hope that they win all that they deserve. The acting is superb, the direction is superb and the writing is the same. Don Draper is so real that it is mind blowing. The looks on his face. That look of shock when Betty threw up in the car was priceless.

I agree. This show must have what it takes to sweep. I don't watch much television at all and could certainly be wrong, but the acting, sets, and costuming are superb. A real thrill and throwback.

This show is very enjoyable to watch. You don't watch it and walk away, either. It stays with you, and you find yourself going back over scenes and examining the characters words and actions for hidden meanings. Another thing I enjoy, is the lack of foul language. I believe it would be totally out of keeping for people of that time period to use bad language as casually as people today. Perhaps the writers can't use it as freely as was done on something like "The Sopranos," for example, but I certainly enjoy not hearing the "F" word and others flung about so freely.

60'schild,
I forgot who else besides Jon Hamm was nominated for acting? I do hope they sweep the emmys. I'll certainly be front and center, then off to party the wins!

user-pic

Hi Nora! It was John Slattery nominated for Supporting Actor, I believe, as far as the acting noms go. I join the chorus of well wishers as far as sweeping the Emmys (or the ones they are up for, anyway). If ever a show deserved to sweep it's our beloved MM...

Robert Morse was also nominated for best guest actor in a drama. It's too bad none of the women from the show were nominated, but maybe that's too greedy.

I never miss the Emmys (award season is like my high holy days, and watch them, red-carpet coverage and all). It's nice to know that one of my favorite shows has a good chance of winning - usually I root for underdog shows (Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Buffy) that get overlooked in the noms.

scfan,hanna, 60'schild,
Here's to Robert Morse,John Slattery and Our Lovely, Jon Hamm. I'm holding a Dry Manhattan glass up! Hanna, I love to watch the awards too, the whole shebang.
scfan,
I just watched 2 movies with Sandra Dee, "Gidget" and "Immitation of Life". She's so great!

user-pic

Hi Nora, many people over the years have said they thought I looked like her (Sandra Dee) I never could see the big resemblance but it was still flattering to hear! Also, some would say I looked like Colleen Corby (the 'first teen "supermodel" of the '60s', so they say) which I can see a tiny bit of a resemblance in the eyes and nose but...she like Sandra Dee were real beauties for sure. Honestly, I never saw it like others have (including my husband!) but it would flatter my ego to hear the comments just the same! enough aboutg that! ha Yeah, I think Sandra Dee is better in "Imitation of Life" than she is in "Gidget"--- so funny to see Cliff Robertson (!) as "Moondoggie" huh? I always thought she and Bobby Darin were a cute couple.

user-pic

scfan,
OK, now you have to put your picture up! You must be a beauty. And, yes I loved Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee. It didn't get big reviews, but did you see the Kevyn Spacey movie on Darin's life? I watched it several times.

user-pic

Nope, no "beauty" in my own eyes at least. I guess I take after Jon Hamm in not seeing what others see. That's the truth. Is that Marilyn you have for your pic now? Now SHE very definitely was a beauty!

user-pic

Nora, let's remember that "all that" was over 30 years ago since most of the flattering comments were made! Even if I did favor either of them, there's a lot of mileage on the old gal since then! LOL
Enough of that...let's talk about MM like we're supposed to!
Oh, and Nora, I still think it was rude of M. Kors to spurn us like he did...(this is just a joke--- to all you newbies) and here we were all ready to head to LA for your Emmy Party! LOL

user-pic

Hi scfan! I was soooo in love with James Darren (sp?)!!! he was moondoggie too.

I also was a huge Time Tunnel fan because of him.

Have you ever seen the parody of the beach movies "Psycho Beach Party"? It is hysterical!!

user-pic

60'schild, not sure if I ever saw the "Psycho Beach Party" one...I'd probably remember, right? Sounds completely hilarious. LOL
I do recall the parody of beach party movies on SNL with Gilda Radner and Carrie Fisher playing Annette and ? with their huge teased hair and hilarious dialogue. Gilda had those huge pointy "boobs" in that "Annette-style" swimsuit!

user-pic

....there you are.... well, scfan, IS that you then? if not, what the...?

and yes, i believe that is nora, who is clearly very beautiful.

60schild, you're next!

I was actually going to suggest that, for one post, on one thread, one time, everyone put up their real photo..... just for kicks.

user-pic

Hi Dry Manhattan! I real picture of me? That might be scary! I can't compete with Nora and scfan. Hmmmm...I'll think about that one!

user-pic

Hi scfan! I remember the SNL skit too!
If you get a chance rent "Psycho Beach Party" or watch for the uncut version on TV.
Like most parodies, the more of the real beach movies you've seen, the funnier this one is!

I wonder how Annette Funnicello is doing these days? I know she has MS, but, I haven't heard anything about her in a while. I saw a biography special about her a while ago, and she was saying that the big wigs at The Disney Corp. told her she had to wear modest swimsuits, no 2 pieces. So, they were still controlling her image after she left the Mouseketeers. How starnge!

user-pic

Dry Manhattan, my pic is a pic of Colleen Corby (a "teen" model in the '60's) that people have told me I look like (some have said Sandra Dee, too) I don't really agree but people do seem to say it so I suppose they think so? It would be great if I thought I did, but people don't usually see themselves like others do...anyway...I wonder if Drink&Smoke looks like Dean Martin??!! lol
60'schild, I too, wonder about Annette--hope she's at least holding her own and not a lot worse with the MS.

user-pic

Oh, BTW Nora's Mad Men Contest entry of Don Draper I think she looked like Donna Reed in it who IMO was one classy/pretty lady. I loved her in "It's a Wonderful Life" so much.
And Nora, you really look a LOT like Marilyn!! Wow!
Your show about her..was it a stage show or a film or what? That is so cool.
