Hi Jonathan! I think I have the most bizzare theory. Most of my Maddict buddies don't agree...but, here goes...

I think Peggy imagined the entire pregnancy, complete with weight gain, cravings etc.
I think when she went to the hospital with severe abd. pains, she was found not to be pregnant, and was considered incompetent, and admitted to the Psych. hospital for that reason. Basically, she was psychotic.
The story is yet to be told, we'll see...

60schild: You know, I had the same feelings about this. Especially when Don was in the hospital with her & said something about this not really happening. The writers could direct this any way they wanted.

I think she did have a baby. Back then who knows what the 'procedure" was for someone i n her situation. Maybe they thought she must incompetent if she is unmarried, and doesn't want to hold the baby or anything. So they medicate her, consult the family and give custody to them.

I do not think the writers would try to complicate this more making the baby not Pete's. It was a stretch to believe she was pregnant without knowing it until labor. I really disagree with some of the speculations on here that the baby is actually Don's. This would get too "soap opera-y" IMO.

Besides, my son has blue eyes and blonde hair and everyone wonders where he gets it from. I was blue/blonde until I was about 10-12, then my eyes turned green and my hair started to darken. My husband also had white-blonde hair when he was a toddler, now has almost black hair, so people's features can change over time, just because Peg and Pete aren't blonde/blue doesn't mean their kid couldn't be.

MY PREDICTION: her and Ft. Gill are going to come to some sort of relationship and raise the baby together. They will both leave the church and find some kind of alternative ministry to be part of.
