I missed the early episodes of Mad Men in the 1st season.

In which one does Peggy get birth control pills?

That was Season 1 Episode 1.
Peggy was gung ho to take Joan's advise. She went on her lunch hour and returned with the chocolates, flowers and soaps for the switchboard ladies (plus the prescription for birth control).

Ouch! I thought I had seen every episode of both Season 1 and Season 2 including marathons. However, I don't recall what you mention here and I don't remember Joan having a lesbian roommate as mentioned in another thread. Hmmmmmm......

Her roommate expressed her feelings for Joan in the episode where Roger had his first heart attack. A lot was going on so you could have easily have missed it.

It was in the same episode as when Don slapped Roger. "Your wife's name is Mona!"

Joan's roommate, Carol, comes to SC and tells Joan she's been fired. Then, later back at their apartment, Carol confesses her "deep feelings" for Joan. Which Joan ignores. She suggests they go out and have some fun.

Ritt, I don't think Joan ignored Carol's confession; she responded in a way so as not to embarrass her friend, by pretending she didn't understand what she meant because Joan did not feel the same. It saved face for Carol. That's the way I saw it anyway. Carol was not "out".
