Episode 9 - preview

Several people mentioned in the forum that there are previews Don thinking about Rachel. Where did you see them, I checked the videos and there's only one about Roger, Don, etc going to a gambling place. Any help????

Comments

user-pic

In the preview I saw, Don and his colleagues are giving some dude fake names and the name Don gives is that of Tilden Katz, Rachel's hubby.

default userpic

Oh, I remember that, but I thought he was just giving some clever name, I didn't catch that it was her husband. INTERESTING!!!!!! & thanks, I'm a newie and have been getting slammed for some of my questions

user-pic

Gracy - don't fret. Read the blogs, though. Much of your need to know about MM has likely already been dissected by one of us. Rachel is married to Dr. Tilden Katz. She's a nice Jewish girl and the Doc is a good man (though NOT heart stopping prime filet like Don) but I doubt she'll revisit Madison Avenue's Magic Flute anytime soon. Rachel's memory is always playing in the background for Don since she represents his only liason who was actually a whole and undamaged human being. The rest have had major baggage (including the breathtakingly beautiful though childish ingenue who is Mrs. Draper.)

user-pic

Gracy: No worries! You got questions about Mad Men, ask me. Visan won't get snarky wit' ya! But I may diss and give nutty nicknames to some of the show's characters!! And, Gracy, ignore the "haters" on this site!

user-pic

Yeah, Gracy...our Guardian Angel, Clayton Neuman, keeps (most) of those rude, meanies away. He's the monitor for these boards and he does a great job of "troll killin'"!!
I think that Visan knows a lot and can fill you in on just about any MM question(s)...she is also "first in line" for Don when he and Betty finally split up...but all the rest of us will be trying to take "cuts"!!! (pun intended???)
Ask away...you can be sure someone on here will know the answer..and if we don't, we'll make one up! LOL

user-pic

Hey, jamm54, PYR, I put ol' "Gidge" back up! She's a lot more cheery than Colleen, anyway. ha

user-pic

Well, Visan can have Donny boy. I, myself, have a hankering for Roger, and yes, I realize he could conk out on me or under me before my dream is fully realized. If you are gonna dream, dream and to heck with the consequences, is what I say!

default userpic

Thanks Visan and scfan for the welcome. Love the show and starting listening to some of the interviews and realized there is even more hidden meanings and inuendo than I realized. I have to admit although Don is a slut and I've had my share of the same he makes my heart stop. ALL man. Glad to see on TV but wouldn't want one bit in real life, well maybe a bit, but wouldn't trade places with Betty. And it's fun to remember those days. I was only 7 in 62 but it was a different world from today!

user-pic

zerelda, Roger definitely isn't bad, either...sexy and love that silver shock of hair. He's so witty and devil-may-care, too...sexy as all get out. He and Don both are.

user-pic

...um.... there are some valued posters on here who should know better but choose not to.

many of us have been slammed at least once, and try not to pay it any attention.

there are one or two who like to scare new people, so i say read, write and have fun. don't worry about it...

user-pic

....i like the use of the word "troll." think i just read that somewhere else recently....{;)

user-pic

Gracy: Welcome and you ask any question and contribute any insight you want!! I get frustrated when a newbie asks an innocent question and gets slammed-we're all neighbors in the MM world so we should act accordingly.

Having said that, I must admit that when someone mean crosses my path on this forum, I retort right back-sometimes I'm justified, sometimes I'm not justified. I feel bad for spewing back their inhumanity, but we have to stick up for ourselves and each other. I usually end a flip remark with a smile :) so that fellow posters will know I am kidding.

It seems that Visan and JimK take some heat-the irony is that they are awesome!

user-pic

Is it Happy Hour yet? You are in good company on this thread, Gracy. I'm with you about having fun remembering the good ol' days of the 60's. However, I too just got slammed for making this remark on another thread (apparently they didn't have any good memories of the 60's, bummer). Who knew? I just hope they lighten up a bit. Clayton Neuman does do a great job of troll killin'- Cheers to you Clayton! Scfan, missed your Gidget pic - glad to see she's back. Visan, Redhead64 and Dry Manhatten - keep the party going. ;o)

user-pic

Hey Drink&Smoke! My Ann Margret icon was flirting with your Dino icon a few days ago. Your response was nothing-totally ignored-imagine how my icon must feel. . . :( I have to stick up for her-come on Dino, buy her a drink to make up for it or I fear that she'll run out to Vegas, heat things up with Elvis, get Priscilla all miffed and I'll have to select another symbol for my postings. You cannot upset the natural balance of the universe.

Yes, I have now gone insane for the thought of no new episode this Sunday.

user-pic

I'm quite blunt, so there are posters who take what I say about fake TV characters to heart, for some bizarre reason. I've learned to not take the bait because there are serious things going on in life...sky-high gas, shitty economy, etc. This forum should be about an informative, yet fun discussion of a good show, Mad Men.

In other words, don't feed the trolls!

user-pic

OMG, Redhead64 where did I miss the icon flirt? So many new posts, no time to even light up a cigarette, have a decent cocktail or enjoy an icon flirt. I can't have you going off to Vegas looking for Elvis or changing your icon. Cheers to you and your Ann Margaret icon. ;o)

user-pic

...i thought originally that was YOU, redhead64. i'm a big ann-margret fan, but apparently my eyes are for shit. did she ever really have cherry-colored hair? she's always been ginger-colored, like joan.

I agree with you but posted all about it somewhere else.

Visan, bring on the funny names.

Down with trolls.

user-pic

...oh yeah, and viva la Elvis!!

user-pic

Hi Gracy!
You are in good company on this site! These guys are the best!! I was new to the site in August, and admitted I had never been on one of these forums before. I didn't know the lingo (I am still learning), and I think a few posters back then were a little inpatient with new posters. I do try to read through the other posts if possible to catch up on what has already been discussed, so I'm not repeating myself.
People like Dry Manhattan, Redhead64, jamm54, Drink&Smoke, visan, scfan, flowerpower, Nora, are some of the nicest, funniest people I have met!!
Sorry, if I left anyone out!

P.S. don't mention pantyhose, or Chauncey the dog and you're in like "the groove"!! LOL!!

user-pic

Hi fellow Maddicts! Well, once again, work is interfering with my MM forum time...what a bummer!
I won't be posting for a few days because I'll be away. I will be glued to the TV Sunday for the Emmys!! GO MAD MEN!!

user-pic

Gotta new nickname for Don--Donnie Wadd! LOL! Play on the John Holmes alter ego, Johnny Wadd! Ha!

user-pic

On the list of nice bloggers you forgot yourself, 60's child. We love your posts and icon, too! ;o)

user-pic

.....60schild is a nurse. say what you want about parenthood, but there is no more important job.

oh, and, don juand. and that's the last time you'll ever see me post such a thing.

user-pic

....Drink&Smoke, maybe we should start a nightly happy hour thread. we'll call it Happy Hour. or Drink&Smoke. ha.

user-pic

@Drink&Smoke; Ann Margrock forgives you . . . just buy her a fur coat and some diamonds and she'll be fine (these days must be faux fur and moissonite).

@Dry Manhattan: you are too flattering! I don't have a face that would crack glass, but I'm no Ann Margret. I found that photo of her and like the rich auburn color-not her usual look.

I like the Happy Hour thread idea. A different host each week with segments like "Visan's Serious Social Commentary Minute" ,"Rollin' with the Trollers", "Taking it on the Chin with Chopin47".

user-pic

@theredhead!: Social Commentary Minute...LOL! Very Visan!!;-)

user-pic

and I also propose an after hours adults only segment: "He said/She said" starring JimK and LaurieB. :)

user-pic

....redhead64 - i am screaming.

user-pic

You all are so bad! I'd tell you to stop being naughty, but I like laughing with you.

Say, how do you get those fetching little pictures next to your posts? I love'em, and they seem to suit you all to a "T". I especially love yours, Drink&Smoke, as Dean M. was always my favorite Italian from back in the day. He had Frank S. beat by a country mile, in my book. He hadn't a "Clyde" bone in his body!

user-pic

OMG Stop it Redhead. You're killing me! You are hysterical! This is so much fun!!

user-pic

and last but not least: a late, late night segment starring only Redhead64--"In The Me, Me Hours of the Morning"--viewership is targeted towards overachieving insomniacs who believe the world revolves around them. Dysfunctional mother issues prevail. NoraParadiso is slated to be a substitute host.

user-pic

zerelda:
Find a pic you like and save it as a file if it's not one already. Go into Edit Profile and Browse for the file. Save. That should do it. (Just did all that a few minutes ago.)

user-pic

....rolling again....these are CLASSIC.

it's like ADT, only for the MM posters and their alter-ego(s).

reminds me of the play about Sterling Cooper staff written by Ken Cosgrove in Season One where they played each other.

see, now if everyone changes their screen name all the time, we can't form these mental profiles of them, and it just wouldn't be any fun.

user-pic

....better yet, post these comical profiles of some of the regulars (with their consent) on the registration / orientation page, so the new people already know they are in illustrious company. no one's done that before, have they?

user-pic

DryManhattan: I would gladly post my tongue in cheek profile! Let's do it!

user-pic

Cheers to you zerelda ;o) Thanks for the nice compliment on my Dino pic! He's my favorite singer of all time. Frank S. was dubbed "The Voice" by musicians, but your're right, Dino had him beat by a country mile. He had it all going for him - good looks, velvet voice and great hair!

user-pic

I'll drink to that, Dry Manhatten!! How about the Drink & Smoke Happy Hour for Insomniacs? I love Redhead64's idea about hosts and segments. I'm sure she could fill in while the rest of us regain our alter egos, refill our martini glasses and send out for some more Lucky Strikes! ;o)

user-pic

I just started a thread about our alter egos. It took me awhile to get in the groove, but I just let loose. I hope we started a trend. The credit goes all to you DryManhattan.

EVERYBODY GET CREATIVE AND JOIN THE PARTY!!!

user-pic

Hey, Drink&Smoke and zerelda...how about Nat King Cole?...man what a voice! Dino had the same top-quality voice as Nat so one was not really "better" than the other...just different from each other IMHO
I love those old-time crooners (but not Bing so much...!)
I loved Dino's "Memories are Made of This" best myself...what a voice.

user-pic

redhead64 (Ann) and Drink&Smoke (Dino), I think I'll just sit back and watch your icons flirt...more fun than anything I could dream up!.
You two do try to be nice now and remember to be discreet and not let Ehh-vis find out about all your sneakin' around--might throw him into one of his eat-a-whole-package-of-fried-bacon fits.

user-pic

.....Drink&Smoke - very funny - love it.

maybe "The Mad Insomniac Cocktail Hour" or something...i'm definitely a mad insomniac. and a cocktail.

scfan - you guys are so funny, love Nat Cole too...

it occurred to me the parallel between Elvis and Priscilla, and the Drapers. Priscilla had NO control over the cheating, right up until she left Elvis. so then, Ann-Margret would be like Elvis' "Rachel," right?

lack of sleep. get a life.

user-pic

Well, Dry M, the way I remember it (correct me if I'm wrong, folks) When Ehh-vis and Ann Margret were in Vegas filming ("Viva Las Vegas", of course) they got pretty chummy. Elvis was not married yet to Priscilla (although he "kept" her at Graceland, grooming her to be Mrs. P. someday----according to Priscilla- they did "everything but" but 'not actual sex')
Priscilla got wind of her intended and Ann's heavy romance (don't know if AM and E were sexually involved, yet, but I bet they were!) and before you knew it, he and Priscilla were planning a wedding...that's the way I heard it anyway. The mags and all that were full of gossip about Elvis and Ann Margret--- saying they were very serious and almost to the point of engagement and all...so Priscilla evidently put a stop to that...don't know how much of it was her pressure (or if she even did pressure him) or just that E was actually as ready as she was to get married. Anybody know any more about all that? I'm not even sure if I got all this right, I just remember it this way.

user-pic

....well i read her book while i was hanging out at Graceland for three days during Elvis week one time. we went twice because the first time goes by so fast you miss stuff.

it sounds corny, but it was totally fascinating, priscilla narrates the whole tour, and it's really pretty moving and eery to be standing in the very rooms where he lived.

it was crazy and memphis is a scream during Elvis week. all the blues you can stand, fried peanut butter-and-banana sandwiches, and plenty of gospel. if you get a chance, i recommend it.

ann-margret never admitted until recent years that she actually had the affair with Elvis. she would always just say "we were good friends."

i think she said, or someone said, something about him actually having a terrible time deciding between Priscilla and her....

...that he felt she was his soul-mate, but there was the whole competing careers thing. Elvis had an all-consuming, very twisted ego, and Ann-Margret probably wouldn't have been able to survive that for long.

user-pic

Off topic, but how do you start a new conversation? I click on the "start new conversation" at the top of this page but nothing happens.

I also didn't catch that Don gave Rachel's husband's name. Roger and crew thought it was funny anyway, they were so plastered anything would have been amusing.

user-pic

Just across from "Start a new conversation" is an area where it says "Blog" "Talk" "Contest" and "Mad Men Main". I click on "Talk" and it brings up a little section with an area for the Topic and a section to type in your comment. Hit Submit and it starts a whole new thread. At least, that's how it works for me. Hope this is helpful.

Yeah, Roger, Don, and Freddy were obviously feeling no pain. I can't wait to see where they wind up when they get off that elevator! Roger tipped that guy $25 - quite a lot of money back then!

default userpic

Pink: I had that trouble, too. Sometimes all I saw on the right side of the screen were BMW ads & I couldn't get to the Start a Topic block.

DM & SCfan: You mentioned the Elvis. Does anyone else think it was extremely odd that Priscilla's parents would allow her to "live" with Elvis? What did she say in her book, DM? Wasn't she about 16 or something? Okay, I shouldn't be talking about Elvis.

Gracy: I've only been posting for a week & have never participated in anything like this before. I was both welcomed & chastised by DM, but I take it all with a sense of humor & am still here. Stay with us.

user-pic

I too read and watched everything I could about Elvia and 'Cilla. And that's the one thing I could never get my arms around.... what sane, responsible parents would let their 15 yr old daughter move across the globe and live with another family just so they can see each other. In "Elvis and Me" she talks about how she was the good Catholic school girl by day and the vamp by night, partying into the wee hours. I also hated how Elvis transformed her into this black-haired, beehived, thick eyelinered vixen. She was so beautiful without all that... of course now she's got that botched face-lift and looks horrible. She's had a tough life that one.

user-pic

Spot on Dry Manhatten, with the Elvis/Pricilla and Don/Betty parallel. ;o) Yes, Betty is the Pricilla and Rachel is the Ann Margaret - "I'm the Mary and you're the Rhoda" ...oops, wrong movie. Anyway, never a better movie than Viva Las Vegas. Ann had some great outfits for that movie and I could see them being used in Mad Men, right? Let us carry on with drinking glasses and cigarettes in hand...Cheers!

user-pic

P.S. Thanks for the nostalgia info on E&P. It was a crazy courtship between the two and and even stranger marriage/life. Poor Pricilla!

user-pic

I heard that Priscilla and a few other Hollywood wives went to this quack doctor who injected motor oil or some horrible substance into their skin to smooth out their wrinkles. YUK! The relationship bewteen E & P was so dysfunctional. I love Elvis and believe he was a good person, just terribly mixed up.
