Enquirer disses John Hamm

Ok, I SWEAR I don't normally read this rag, but I was in a very long checkout line at the grocery store and there it was. Obviously written by a back-biting anonymous person, it says he is petty and full of himself and has a big ego. Imagine that, an actor with a big ego!
Nice big picture of Christina and her green gown at the Emmys though!

Hi flowerpower!
Personally, I don't believe anything unless it's in "The Globe", right up there with Hollywood alien abductions!! LOL!
I know what you mean about being drawn to these rags while in the checkout lines.

How dare they diss Jon Hamm, obviously they have never met a MADDICT!!!
BRING IT ON ENQUIRER!!!

....hi flowerpower and 60schild.....that seems odd.....he comes over rather the opposite in interviews and what-not...... he couldn't have been more thrilled for Bryan Cranston's award the other night, and it seemed genuine. (maybe he deserved the award, after all!)

Hi Dry Manhattan! I agree.
In the interviews I have seen with Jon Hamm, he seems almost shocked by this new sex symbol image. I want to believe he is as humble and nice as he seems.
I hope he never changes...we've all seen what fame does to some actors.

I am looking forward to his SNL guest shot, I can't wait to see his comedic side!!

.....came across these nice red carpet photos - my favorite is John Slattery standing on January Jones' dress! (if you get a script error, just say "no.")

....sorry, say "yes."

Best Life magazine had a great spread on Jon Hamm last month. He seems very down to earth and, sadly, lost both his parents at a young age. I was very impressed with him. Great pics too!

user-pic

Thanks redhead64! I'll have to check it out!

Interesting about the loss of Jon Hamm's parents. I wonder if because of that, he is able to be so endearing and warm in those scenes with Bobby and Sally?

user-pic

Hi Dry Manhattan! John was standing on January's dress!! I hope it didn't cause another "wardrobe malfunction" LOL!!

user-pic

Oh, after reading about his background and the loss of his parents at a very young age (10 for his mother, 20 for his father), I seriously doubt he's got a "big head" after going through that. I think he's probably over the moon for his success at 37, and grateful. And, in his interviews, he seems very, very down-to-earth and gracious.

I guess he's "arrived" when he starts to become the subject of "attacks" and "character assassination" (what a reward for being successful!! Oy!).

user-pic

Yes,I've seen him on a couple interviews and he presented as very modest and humble for all this "new found success".He has probably been a struggling actor for well over 10 years.

I remeber he had a tiny part in Kissing Jessica Stein and I found him hot then. It is disgusting how the Media can really mess with a person's life and make it a living hell. I hope that he continues on with the show because you know that now that they've won an Emmy, bigger offers are going to start rolling in. Lets hope our little gem of a show maintains the quality and uniqueness that drew us in and kep us enthralled.Even though it is an ensemble drama, Don Draper is the heart and soul of Mad Men.I hope we don't lose him to fame and fortune now that Hollywood has caught onto MM.

Hi jamm54 and madmanfan4ever! Ditto!!

Jon Hamm is in the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Keanu Reeves. Personally, can't wait to see this movie (December 2008?). Always loved it as a kid, and in the 90's, I bought a renovated poster of the original movie with the original director's autograph on it (Robert Wise). It's quite a cool picture which I had framed (it's huge). The framers all wanted it when I brought it in.

I have a companion sci-fi poster (right off the theater display case - guy gave it to me right there) of Tim Burton's "Mars Attack" which I haven't framed yet, but always thought it'd look good next to my framed "The Day the Earth Stood Still".

user-pic

I just hope the series gets a 5-6 year run to tell all the stories up to 1970, or at least to the conclusion of the Vietnam war (1973?).

.....jamm54 and all.... Oy is right! all good points and probably a good grain of truth in there....

i used to LOATHE the rag mags, but lately i've noticed they seem to be the ones on the front lines of the nasty news.... the Enquirer broke the John Edwards mistress-and-love-child scandal.... look how that turned out.

you MUST listen to the Fresh Air NPR broadcast with Terry Gross.... Matthew Weiner, Jon Hamm and John Slattery.... very worth it....

Thanks Dry Manhattan! I love NPR, thanks for the link.

Jamm54, Everytime The Day The Earth Stood Still is on I watch it!
I think we may have talked about this before, I just hope Jon Hamm isn't cast as Gort!! All that beauty under a robot costume!!

I agree with you about the run of MM, I am hoping for many many more years!!

user-pic

Dry - Thanks for posting the NPR interview again. I agree, it's worth listening to.

I say ignore the crap the tabloids spouts off. Yeah, they're right sometimes, but most of the time they just make up stuff to sell copies. Whatever!

....let's get something straight - i have never, ever bought one, and never will. sometimes our little old lady neighbors give magazines to us, and i can't NOT look in them.

the only way i would give those people a dime is if i needed it for emergency kindling or a puppy paper.

user-pic

Amen, Dry! Buying tabloids supports unrelenting paparazzi scum that chase people down in the streets (like the a$$hats that killed Princess Diana). Most of the times their stories are nothing but rumors and lies. Don't forget, the people they're writing this crap about are REAL people, and it probably hurts to know all this stuff is said about them (especially if it's not true). If you want to read or hear about celebrity gossip, there's some more reputable publications and TV shows ..... or you could just read it while waiting in the check-out line and leave it at the store.

There is no way for us to really know who is behind the mask . I do know he grew up here in St. Louis, and was interviewed by one of local magazines, that interviewed him directly. He has been bounced around a lot, but to the top notch schools. of our city. He graduated from John Burroughs School, which cost over
20, 000 dollars a year. He went to Tx for awhile where he said he had more of an interest in getting "hammered and getting laid", than school. He graduated from Mizzou , our state university. I graduated from there , what a blast that place is.He was the only non theater major to ever receive a scholarship from the theater dept. He transfered there after his father died his soph. year. Ya, he's had it rough. He is an orphan , and his mom died when he was younger. Maybe that's what he draws on to go to those deep places. O.K. I just read that he returned to Burroughs to teach to repay what they had done for him I have utmost admiration for him..

user-pic

I guess you "haven't arrived" unless you are written about in an unflattering way by these trashy tabloids

user-pic

60's child: I think Keanu Reeves is Gort (the starring role). I guess the original Michael Rennie movie exercised a lot of license with the original short story. This version will stay true to the original story. So, it's not going to be a strict rehash of the 50's movie. Sounds very, very interesting. I hope there's a robot, there's gotta be a big robot!
