Draper home changes
Did they redo the living room? It looks a lot more "modern" than it did before.

Did the bedroom change? The bed and furniture is the same, but the door to the bedroom used to be next to Don's side of the bed. It looked like they had another area before the hallway.
Sorry MM, your show is so perfect, and smart. Smart people see it, and therefore, you have these people (me) paying attention.
If you remember Naked Gun was very successful. They started a TV show based on that. The show was great. The problem was that one had to actually watch it to get all the jokes.
...well i was bitching in the first season that i totally disagreed with the furnishings in that house, for a number of seemingly good reasons. still do, actually.
however, the new couch looks just right.
that living room, from a certain angle looks exactly like rob and laura petrie's (The Dick Van Dyke Show) sofa and living room.
One of the things I love about this show is the set decoration and wardrobes. I worked in an office and lived in this era as a 20-something, and it is all precisely correct. What would be really fun would be virtual reality game on the computer to allow us to walk through the office, homes, etc. and look at everything in detail!
I noticed in the living room that the wall colors had changed to a hunter green (from wallpaper?), and that the lamps and tables were different, besides the new couch.
They need to do something with the dining room and the kitchen. They look very "dated" and still in the colonial style.
Let's remember our own homes, everyone. We might be able to afford to update one or two rooms, just as Don and Betty did with their living room. However, maybe doing all of the rooms at one time was too expensive, or maybe Don didn't want to put out all of that money at one time. He does seem to be on the cheap side at times. Other times, he really flaunts the cash, as he did with the Caddy. However, I could see Betty trying to press for a re-do, and Don saying they couldn't afford to do all of the rooms. In the first season, by the way, the couch and other furniture in the living room was a beige-yellowish. Now it's done in whites.
@ahs: I think Don is very cheap a lot of the time. He signed over his $2500 bonus to Midge! He buys a new caddy for $6500 with cash! Betty has riding lessons and they have a maid? They could afford to do the dining room and kitchen I would think. Both rooms (and even their bedroom furniture) are looking very dated. Heck, even Joan's apartment looked better than their place!
As other bloggers have noted, Don has cash stashed elsewhere. He had a few grand in his desk and likely has private accounts in the city. That he is emotionally disassociated from Betty, there is no guilt associated with this or his free exchange of bodily fluids with any skirt willing to put out (except the lovely Asian waitress) the night he plundered the Mohawk account. Remember how RICHARD KIMBALL, from the series, THE FUGITIVE? He changed identities every single week. Don's is ready, I think, at a moment's notice, to evaporate into the ether in a NY minute. If it's true what Mr. Weiner has said about his show's planned longevity - than it's hard to see how Madison Avenue can contain the 'madness' of Don/Dick Draper/Whitman. Such a beautiful but seriously mentally ill man and with that booming hypertension of 160/100 at a mere 36 years of age on Reserpine no less (is he actually TAKING his HTN meds?) he won't stay looking that good for too long........
I don't Don's looking that good this year anyone. He looks older and dour, most of the time. And I swear, they've "flattened" down his hair to emphasize the crushing weight of the past coming down on him.
I think you're right, Hyperboliz, he's got cash all over Manhattan so he can go. Who keeps $5G in their house? Not very many, people, I'm sure.
