Betty and Duck
I don't know why but when Duck (I think that is his name the guy who abandoned the dog a few weeks ago) arrived for the dinner party alone without a date, I noticed he brought flowers for Betty and the thought went through my mind that he would be a good person for Betty to be with. Both she and he have been hurt by their spouses, both are vulnerable and both are suffering from the loneliness of being alienated by their spouses. Also they are suffering from severe emotional distress and are on the verge of breaking down. It would be interesting to see if they seek comfort in each others arms. And wouldn't that be a kick in the pants to Don's competitive nature. His wife taking up with a colleague and competitor. Maybe reality would finally wake this guy up to gamble he has been taking by toying with his wife's affections.

Even if Betty wanted to, Duck wouldn't have an affair with Betty. Right now Don's his best supporter within the company and sleeping with Betty would be professional suicide. He may be an alchoholic but he's not suicidal.
Hi Blondeambition! I'm not sure, but, isn't the reason Duck and his wife split was because of his fooling around? And his alcoholism?
Betty would be asking for more trouble.
And, I agree with Ritt, Duck could never risk an affair with Betts at this point.
I think Duck is on his best behavior right now. However, a leopard doesn't change his spots. He's the last thing Betty needs.
Betty needs to pull herself together, shake off the June Cleaver act and learn how to function in the real world. The life of horseback riding during the day, maids and perfect McMansion ( I know that term didn't exist in 1962 ) will go when Don goes. Pulling another man into her life is not the answer.
I have no doubt that Don will move on. That final scene in the office kitchen did not show a man who was remorseful or distraught. It was a man who was sitting back, weighing his options. Who knows? Once Betty reached 40-45 and wasn't so young & cute anymore, he very likely would have traded her in for a younger woman, more befitting his professional status .... just as he did with his car.
I am a bit surprised that he did not go home ( unless he wanted to be alone to decide how to manage the situation. ) He pays for the house. Indeed every aspect of his family's lives are due to Don's income. He had every right to go home, regardless of what Betty told him to do. I'm a bit surprised that he didn't.
Don didn't go home because he cannot stand confrontation. He takes the easy way all the time with Betty to avoid a fight.
I think perhaps he is feeling regret for the dumb mistake he made with Bobbie. He really needs Betty and the kids and the perfect life. I think he will try to figure out how to appease her. Maybe a new fur coat??? (It worked the first time.)
I heard that whenever George Burns got caught cheating, Gracie never said anything, but she got a new, expensive gift shortly thereafter. I think that was just they way that generation with that kind of money handled these things. Divorce simply wasn't an option.

from a cheater to a drunk...I don't think so...
George Burns?!!
I learn so much from everyone!...
Keep in mind Blondeambition,...
Bringing flowers for the hostess of a formal dinner party was not a personal gesture, but a courtesy and thanks for the invitation. Betty may have also received bottles of wine or liquor, personal soaps, and other small hostess items.
Duck really has no interest in Betty on a personal level (at this time and as far as we know).
lol...Now I'm putting disclaimers on my posts!
...Never know where the story is going...
