How were we tricked re: Ossining?

I was just re-watching "The Marriage of Figaro" from last season, and when Don is exiting at the train station, the location sign says "Ossining".

We weren't really tricked by Ossining but the viewers seem to agree that it is an unlikely choice of locations for someone who has been promoted to a $45,000 job. Then an astute viewer pointed out that Ossining was the home of John Cheever and that the street Don & Betty live on is the title of a book by Cheever, so not tricking us but playing with us. So are they also playing with us re; the accident at Stoney Brook which viewers have pointed out does not have a beach? And why in the plot summaries do they mention the fact that the baby has blue eyes and blonde hair. The summaries are pretty short so why did the writers bother to include a detail like the color of the child's eyes and hair? Is it just nothing or a clue to us?
