Notice the Forums are NOT NEARLY as lively as last season?
I can't say as I care for this forum (the way it's set up) as I did last season. I am also noticing the forum is not NEARLY as lively or interesting. I think this makes a statement on the show itself, or perhaps everyone is blogging about MM elsewhere.

you are absolutely right! The setup is so different from last season where there was a forum to discuss the episode as a whole. Plus, it could be 4o'clock in the morning and the would be hundreds of comments. At least there is still some good insight on the show, but I truly miss the intense activity on this site.
I commented 2 weeks ago that this site is annoying and cumbersome to navigate and it looks like nothing was done to fix it. If there is another site to blog please post it
No, lorantscan, I have no idea if there is another site to blog about MM. Anyone? MMforever, I know what you mean, it could indeed be 4 a.m. and people would be blogging here like crazy. I think too, this could be a signal that, among other reasons this blog is getting stale, the show is not up to last season's. I have liked some of the episodes but it just isn't enthralling me like last season did.
I visit a chat room about Big Brother that is great. I don't even watch many of the shows but I do check every night to see what is going on. The chatters are for the most part, regulars and are very funny. It is a great format, updates automatically. Too much to ask for, I know.
We excuse me for.....wait I wasn't here on the forums last season...lol!
Give it time...it's still Summer and it's Episode #4 tonight by 7 or 8 people will have caught up on their Tivo's or watched the DVD's or gotten into regular 'viewing patterns'....Then again, You've got the Olympics, The Prez Conventions in a few weeks, Labor day, Plus all the DVD's from last Falls shows start hitting the street soon...
i.e. I just discovered "House" (via Season 4 dvds) I just spent 3 days watching all of them...you know it's weird when you're having dreams about Betty 'making out' with Miss Thirteen (Olivia Wilde) or you have the "whose the bigger & better Bitch?" debate- Joan H or Amber (Cut-thoat Bitch on "House")...especially when Anne Dudek plays both Amber & Betty's best friend on "Mad Men"
House would've seen Peggy's preggers a mile away!...and diagnosed her with Lymphoma and a benign abdominal cist first- lol.
Don was giving his pitch today and I thought I heard Kal Penn shout out "We're selling Lupus!" and the Paul said "It's Fibro-Myalgia"...and I was like WHAT?
It's 2 am where I am....these are the comments you're going to get this season- lol.
Is it just me or does Pete Campbell need a Bi-opsey...does Duck have Huntingtons Disease??
Number Six: I guess I am not following your line here about whatever point you are trying to make. Olivia? Miss Thirtee? House? Kal Penn? Huh? No matter. Anyway, I have a funny feeling this forum will not get much more action than it's currently seeing. Like poster MM stated, this forum used to go crazy at all hours of the day and night, and I don't think if people are that fond of a show, they would tune out to watch the Olympics. And I really don't understand your comments on Campbell, or Duck and Huntington's Disease. What? Honestly, you don't need to explain, that last "What?" was rhetorical. Night all.
I would love to see a forum on Mad Men where comments were just not based on comments made. This is sooo frustrating and time consuming to go into each main comment and read each comment under each heading. There should be one section for each episode...I was not on here last season..but have been on other sites for other series...can we do something about this?
I'm not wild about this format, but I don't think it's a reflection on the show. I'll post here if a topic interests me. On the other hand, there's times when I just want to enjoy the program and not talk it to death.
I love this season, but I don't like this blog format, either. I much prefer last years' blog when everyone would comment on one episode. This is lumbering, awkward, and more impersonal. Change it back PLEASE.
MY Apologies Figaro (and Others)....
My comment is 100 times funnier if you've seen season 4 of "House M.D." (on Fox). or Any season for that matter.
Plus, "Mad Men" actress Anne Dudek (Betty's best friend) played a character on "House" that would've eaten Pete Campbell for breakfast (and Sterling for Lunch).
I can say that I don't know anyone who watches (or had watched) "Mad Men" (I'm in my mid-30's) maybe the young people computer bloggers are TiVoing it and will catch up later? I don't know any good "Mad Men" forums....otherwise I'd be there- lol.
I think Peggy might be 'Mentally Divergent' - girl didn't know she was Preggers for how long?
Yea, I think it has to do with the forum format which I feel is vastly inferior, but you're right, it does suck. A lot less fun.
Also, this season has been sort of weird. The first two episodes had me switching over to "Mind of Mencia" as they were total downers, the third showed promise and this fourth episode was so damn jumbled I don't know what they're trying to do.
Frankly, I don't care about Peggy and her family. I want Draper nailing some hot quality females and coming up with killer advertising ideas. Screw the she's an Irish Catholic and had a baby out of wedlock crap. As Burt would say "WHO CARES?"
You Go Dennis!!!....do you think that the 'Voices of Political Correctness' or Femenism have somehow 'gotten hold' of the writers or producers?
You nailed it perfectly!...We want see:
Don nailing 'Hotties' and verbally changing 'coke to pepsi' and being a bad-ass.
Pete Campbell scheming!!
Betty being sexy but Innocent but alittle 'naughty'
Sterling be enigmatic and skirt chasing
Joan setting hearts ablaze and being bitchy!
Peggy being a 'Fish out of Water' and being a semi-ditzy yet inventive maverick!
Paul make Sci-Fi comments & ask girls if they like Ukrainian Food!
Sal pretend not to be gay while still being vaguely effeminent
Did I mention Drapers needs to be Nailing so 'Hot Chicks'?
Duck Sucks!!! have him jump out a window and land on Bobbies character!
This Bobbie chick is a friggin' BORE! Her Hubby makes Howard Stern seem 'regal'. Where's the punchy frat-boy advertising jokes?
When the thing that most resembles what you found so fresh and bold about season #1 is the characters dealing with a plane crash....what's that tell you???
If Episode #5 bores the crap out of me and I don't see any actual 'Direction' ...Maybe I'll just wait for the season 2 DVD's.
I think more people chat about Mad Men on IMDB.com
If you read them as flat, or thread (not sure....you will have to experiment) it's easier to navigate.
I just joined this board, but it is terribly cumbersome. I like the way the board was set up at Entertainment Weekly. I don't know that they have an ongoing board about this series, but they had one regarding an individual episode. The board was set up well. The setup of this board sucks!
The episodes last season were more riveting that the episodes this season. Thus far, the episodes this season have been pretty ordinary. Have they changed writers?
Well it's obvious that the forum posters on this site want to GO BACK THE WAY IT WAS LAST YEAR, BY EPISODE, NOT BY TOPIC. Hullo??? Web-people, can we do that, please?
Go to the very bottom of this page, to CONTACT AMC, send an email. Let's hope we can switch over to the old format, it was WAY more fun.
Ask and ye shall receive -- We've created an Episode Open Thread for you here:
http://blogs.amctv.com/mad-men/talk/2008/08/episode-4-open.php
I wish there was a big chart (kind of like HBO and Showtime have) so we can see all the threads at a glance! Does anyone else feel lost out here sometimes or not?
For instance, I noticed last night that Ken really does seem to be a pimp. I know there's a "Ken" thread back here somewhere but you have to jump around all over the place to find it. I commented on that thread just a day ago but now it's slipped into oblivion. I guess I can go to my comments....but why not have an index or something? Maybe I've missed something? Let me know!
If the purpose of not having an index is so threads don't run on too long (or get off topic), I can understand that. Any thoughts?
See the message from Clayton above yours. He's posted ONE thread entitled "Episode 4". If we just all move to that thread to discuss whatever we want, it'll be like last year. And much less fractured.
#-6..ah yes, crossover programming. I did that with Dexter recently. Not a good one to integrate into most other shows. House probably has his attitude because of some of the same family theme we are seeing on MM. I wish I had been here for the first season comments. I think there are some quality ones here...even if not so much quantity. I do find manuvering through the board to be cumbersome. I try not to double post on a topic that already has a thread, but even after looking, can't find a past thread. Am I missing the index? I visited another forum on MM and like this one better. But why is it so difficult to search?!
I guess me and jamm54 and Dennis (and many others I'm sure I've forgotten to mention) are sort of members of the "charter posters" (?) of these boards. I'm sure there are many others who have posted longer and I do remember all of us posting a lot last season and it did indeed seem easier to navigate, etc. I vote for the old way the boards were set up like everyone else has noted. Thanks, Clayton, for the thread to post anything and everything. Keep it up!
Go bak to last season formort.
Just want to agree with all the comments above. This board is crazy. Comment one place then can't find it again if you've switched to another topic and want to go back. HATE THIS style.
P.S. I've noticed more people on the next day. It does get really late sometimes. Start getting into really good conversations [last year ] and it would be hared to pull yourself away.
i don't like the forum set-up either.
the main thing about this season's boards that i notice is that EVERYONE is such a critic! suddenly everyone is a historian, a writer, a fashion editor, a television reviewer. i really don't like reading the boards this year. i barely participate compared to last year.
last year, we were all just so happy to have an amazing show to talk about, it was a fun and lively exchange. this year, it's just mired down in muck about whether or not so and so would have said that in 1962 or worn that or carried a vacuum cleaner into work. it seems like no one is enjoying the show this season at all. makes me wonder why they watch.
there is very little talk about story line except for trying to figure out what's going to happen next, what should happen next and why will it happen next. lots of ppl writing the show from what i read.
i like to watch and enjoy, let the show unfold before me. wonder what happened to the ppl last year that liked that to?
moto62, totally agree with you. There were people last year who dissected every little thing and naturally saw every episode through their own lens.Don't we all? But I think the critics might be dwindling. We do need varying opinions. But it is annoying when everyone is an expert instead of a fan just talking about the show. I like it when people let you in on a part of themselves that may relate to something specific. I hate the know it all's.
moto62 and ldraper, I so agree, and greetings to you fellow "charter" members of us MM fans from last summer! We actually chatted and just kept it light. I miss that!!! ; (
P.S. This post does not apply to wryter1--he is an "expert" (former Mad Man)--but he's funny in his posts and not critical like so many others. I hope those are dwindling too, l draper.
Moto you said a mouthful! I also think some folks READ way too much into every little thing tat happens in the show. Betty sits down on a sofa and they debate it for hours. Don hangs up his hat and somehow it becomes a key point. Joan straightens her dress and suddenly it means that something is afoot! Anyway, there is an open thread on Episode Four that's a bit better, but honestly, again, I think some people read way too much into each little thing a character does, i.e., Peggy and the vacuum cleaner became fodder for hours of discussion last week. All she did was bring a vacuum cleaner back to her mother. Period!
Number Six, Oh I see, I guess. I don't even know what House M.D. is. Never heard of it. Ah well. Perhaps my age group is into other things. Television shows can often be generation. Sometimes one appeals to all ages and sometimes just the opposite is true.
I know what you all mean about the "know-it-alls". On my first or second (light-hearted) post this season, I got slammed in the head with the Encyclopedia Brittanica! (or was it Google?). Anyway, it almost made me not want to post anymore....like "The Great Wise Ones" were waiting to ambush us newbies. I mean, if we don't check every fact, we get an "F" from the teacher!
Things seem different the last few days, though. (Maybe they're all on vacation!)
This forum format does suck! It's not "poppin'" like last season!
@Number_Six....Those points you mentioned are not what "we" want to see! As the whole planet knows, I couldn't care less about SAB! Peggy and her family bugs! Pete's still a punk-bitch! Why is Duck even around? He's an ass! Why is Sterling taking hookers to dinner?
Visan wants to watch Don quaffing whiskey, smoking like a chimney and screwing around with stunning brunettes of substance!
Visan you sound like "Jimmy" on "Seinfeld" (using first person) when talking about himself... "Jimmy likes Elaine" etc. Funny! Visan seems to want everythingto be like the comment John Slattery made (when receiving one of the many awards MM has received-- forget which award it was exactly:) "Well, I guess others enjoy watching nothing but smoking, drinking and whoring, TOO!" (not exact quote)
