Last Week's Show

Does anybody else think that perhaps Jimmy's "wife" is a transvestite? I only ask because after Don had the encounter with "her" he came home and washed his mouth and hands before kissing Betty. I have not seen him do this before and seemed a little shaken up and grossed out. Then, at the restaurant, he reached under "her" dress and said "I will destroy you and Jimmy" perhaps grabbing something that is not usually under the dress of a woman. Relationships of this ilk were tres taboo back in the early 60's. What do you think?

I hadn't thought of this, and was confused by the whole scene. So I came here looking for other viewers' theories. I love the idea that she may be a he — and what a shocking thing to have happen to Don. It would sure explain him rinsing out his mouth and washing his hands. He looked disgusted and then relieved to be home. Funny that he seems to be trying to be a good boy, then falls off the wagon into this mess. I really do hope she is a he. That would be riveting.

Oh, please. I saw the sneak preview of Episode 4 this morning on AMC and Bobbie is making a reappearance. If "she" were a "he" would Don be coming back for seconds?

Definitely a "he"!

I mentioned in another thread here that Bobbie might be a transvestite -- and that thought was immediately shot down by all the transvestites posting on the forum.

So, I guess Bobbie is a woman, but not one that I would touch with a 10-foot pole.

So, according to research, she's showing up a few more times? Probably to get the free cases of Utz potato chips from the supply closet.

Seriously doubt that she's a he, because as someone else point out, she'll be seeking out little Don again.

But I do love that she and Tootsie (Dustin Hoffman) enjoy the same cocktail: Dubonnet with a twist.

Don washed out his mouth and scrubbed his hands because he was repulsed by Jimmy's wife. Plain and simple. Having sex with her was an act of neccessity .... just as the way he grabbed her in the restaurant lobby was an act of violence and anger. She's not a transvestite, she's trash. And that's how Draper sees her.

I read the secret synopsis of Bobbie's revisit (which I also wrote) and Bobbie is setting her sights on both Ken and Freddy.

She's using Don as a foil to get at them and have her way with them ~ on a table at the Pen and Pencil ~ while her brother Jimmy insults the onlookers.

I didn't think so until you all really started talking about it. I am beginning to think that makes more sense than Don Draper grabbing the crotch of a woman. I wonder if he found out in the car, but still needed to finish the task of getting Jimmy to apologize.

I'm still not convinced, but it's not a bad theory.

Don washed his hands and his mouth out because he didn't want Betty to realize he'd been with another woman. He grabbed Bobbie behind her neck and under her skirt in response to her blackmail attempt--his violence to her was a way to assert his power over her and let her know that she'd better do exactly what they'd agreed upon.

There's no transvestite subplot here.

For those ney sayers among you, don't you think it would be just like the writers to play with us and have Bobbie drink what was a "Tootsie" cocktail?(thanks grinandbearit) Also, does anybody else find it humorous that they gave her the name "Bobbie" implying it was the female versus the male spelling of the name Bobby? I think this is well intentioned. Afterall, they eluded to the fact that Sal was gay and now, in the new season and notably referenced as a year and a half later, Sal is married to a woman. I think they are having fun with us. We'll see how this season plays out and I can't wait!!! Did anybody else see that Peggy was preggo last season before she gave birth or did people really think it was the freshman "15" or in her case, the freshman 6 lbs., 12 oz.'s. Let the games begin!

I thought that Peggy was porking up from hitting the pastry cart, what...6 or 7 times a minute...?

Either that, or she was swallowing a lot of agression -- and Hostess Snowballs, etc at lunch time.

9:30 A.M. Is it too early for Entenmann's?

"Oooooh! What's in Peggy's lunch bag? Hostess Snowballs and Twinkies, Drakes Devil Dogs...Oh, and for dessert...Moon Pies and half a Sarah Lee cake!!!!"

The Mad Men writers are a really crafty bunch.

As for Pete's stopping by Peggy's apartment; that scenario could be really open ended. Pete might have been so drunk and his fluid level so high that he just stopped in to pee. They might not have had sex.

Perhaps Freddy Rumsen nailed her and that will be revealed at some point in the future.

Perhaps the Red Sox will win another world series.
Naaaaaa! That could never happen.

Dubonnet with a twist was a common ladies thing to drink even in the 70s

The more I think about it the more I think this could be true. I never believed Peggy was pregnat either so I've learned to be open to anything. "Bobbie" made a weird remark to Don when he was surprised she was the agent because in the pitch she had been introduced as his wife. She said, "Would you prefer I introduce myself as his sister like I did in the old days?"

But you know, if Bobbie was a man I don't think he/she would want that to be revealed to Don, do you? Would he/she make such a direct pass at him? Or was the hail symbolic of Bobbie having rocks? I can't decide.

Either way, Jimmy is gay and Don will destroy him by outing him. Bobbie is either a man and Don grabbed his balls, or Bobbie is merely a beard and Don was reminding her of the fact that Jimmy gives her NO satisfaction at all. Remember that Jimmy wasn't in Bobbie's hotel room when Don called. Also, when Don went back to the table after the "incident," he used the napkin to wipe his left hand while it was the rigth hand that went up the skirt...

Perhaps Jimmy is really Duck Phillips in disguise.

That would be a hoot!

No way she's a man - no way. She's just despicable, but Don has to deal with her like he would a bad ass male rival, but she's playing her gender card, and doubling down. He doesn't like to be talked to like that by a woman - remember? He's disgusted with himself for doing what he's doing, but he's determined to beat her. He wiped his fingers on her dress, which is such a subtle, marking move - like a dog pissing on a hydrant - and then we see what she doesn't - him continuing to try to wipe her off of himself, as he returns to his carefully constructed persona. He's just doing what he needs to do to keep everything in front of him. Highly doubt Jimmy is gay. Doesn't make sense. I don't think that's a plot line that serves any purpose. It's all about the price Don is willing to pay, what your worth is, and who your benefactors are.

I don't think I have laughed this hard at any other question posted. I'll have to admit, we never know where MM is going and anything is possible. This would mean that Sal could have a chance to come out of the closet with Don's help. Now that would be quite the finale for Season 2.

default userpic

OMG! Never thought of that but I did find it odd that he grabbed her the way he did in the rest - him coming home the way he did and washing up did not strike me as he wanted to "clean" off before kissing his wife - but the rest - that was pretty BOLD and BAD of him

**Dubonnet with a twist was a common ladies thing to drink even in the 70s**

Yeah, but part of why it's so ironic is that it's almost too feminine...even prissy. That's why Tootsie chose it, and I suspect, it's why Bobbie did, too...or why the writers had Bobbie do it.
