How much drinking do you do while watching Mad Men?

Iplay a little game when I watch Mad Men: every time someone takes a drink or acts drunk, I take a little sip of my own. Because I'm an alcoholic and a masochist, it puts me in the spirit of the show.

The game works out well for me tonight, because five minutes into the episode, there's already a boozing incident and I've got a jug of Long Islands in the fridge that aren't gonna drink themselves. I'll be amazed if I can still type at the end of this one.

Plenty. Rocks glass, ice, and bourbon right there in front of me, and a pack of cigarettes. I try and keep up with the action. When they are pouring drinks its straight booze with a couple cubes of ice. I was born too late.

I was actually wondering if this show would encourage people to drink more and smoke more

and now that it is so popular will they be forced to tone it down (I hope not)

anyone remember Cybil Shepherd's sitcom and her sidekick MaryAnn got all the laughs because she was always tipsy and then next thing you know she is totally reformed and the ratings sunk

I don't think they'll suddenly reform--I think they'll keep it pretty real. Meaning, just like real people, they'll develop smoker's coughs, heart problems, the shakes, etc. and still keep smoking/drinking.

But I quit smoking 8 years ago and I really want a cigarette whenever I watch that show. So if I do, I'm sure others do as well. And yes, it shows smoking and drinking just as the old movies did--glamorous and normal.

I sometimes wish we didn't know cigarettes were bad for you...(And I wish my mother didn't die from smoking...).
