Don needs his own agency!
...and give SC the boot! Wouldn't Don be the greatest with his own company? He could sever ties with these dirtbags at SC and kick their a$$es...beating them out of one account after another. Why not?Roger is mealy-mouthed slime, Coop is losing his ever-lovin' mind, Ken is a pimp, Pete is Pete, and the list goes on. Let's pretend that Don gets out. Who will follow him? I say Sal, Ken will try, Joan for sure and Peggy. Any guesses? Who is worthy enough to join Don?

I think Harry would join Don in a heartbeat. He did say "the way to move up is to move out", or something to that effect in the last episode. It's not clear Don would take him unless he proves himself by doing something in television, though.
Remember Don is a partner at Sterling Cooper, so he may also try to put himself in position to oust those who are threatening its success and integrity -- Duck and perhaps even Roger.
It looks like Don has a playboy/sailor (Roger) and a senile old man (Bert) on his hands for partners, that's for sure.
I agree, Harry Crane would follow Don, along with Peggy Olson, Ken Cosgrove, Sal Romano, Freddie Rumsen. Don't think Joan would leave Roger. Pete Campbell wouldn't be able to make up his mind, he's so conflicted about Don (one week he wants his approval; next week he's shooting past him).
Though I don't think it will be easy for Don to either take over SC or open his own agency. In a showdown for gaining control of SC vs Roger/Duck/Bert, I just don't know. I still feel Roger has the loyalties of a gumby doll and is more content to "go with the flow". Roger doesn't seem to realize that there has to be an overall "business philosophy and plan" for the agency to flourish with the times. Don does - whether he can get it through Roger's thick skull (and get his backing) or not is another matter.
What is to be gained from this "suppose" activity? Are you writing a competing series and need storyline ideas? Why can't these post concentrate on what IS happening in the series or in the production/execution of the program and do away with the questions like "If Don and Betty adopt a Korean baby, and Burt and Joan are second cousins, where would Pete and Trudy go on Labor Day Weekend?"
Remember, from season 1
"If I leave Sterling/Cooper, it won't be for more advertising. I want to stop talking about life, and start living it."
Just like Sterling, though, I've wondered what "living life" would consist of. Draper has his Paris fantasies, but I'm not sure how that's any more living life than advertising. Certainly doesn't seem to cast one more in the role of actor than observer. I think Draper is drawn towards the arty lifestyle. At heart, he really isn't a materialist. He's an idealist. But I'm not sure how idealist goals play themselves out as living more than talking.
Don starting his own agency is actually an interesting idea especially since he has referred to himself as a self-made man. Pay no mind to that naysayer who insulted your ideas-the writing Mad Men gets people thinking about the characters and the "what ifs"-so what is the harm in speculating? We are all a part of this forum and a uninhibited discourse is only fair to all. You go Jolie10!
Don and SC form a symbient circle (not to sound Star War-ish). Don cannot do without SC and SC cannot do without Don. As much as Roger is criticized on the blog, he really is amazing if you dig down deep. Roger adds excitement and allows Don autonomy to be creative. Don wouldn't be able to do that if he owned his own agency and had a client threatening to leave at every turn. Not to mention Roger takes the stress of "is there enough money for everyone's paycheck?" off Don's shoulders. Roger's remarks about the thrill of new business was quite moving to me. Roger is right, it is the new business that keeps things from going stale at SC. Roger gave Harry the raise and the title in a heartbeat. Not to mention he told Harry, "you drive a hard bargain" and made Harry feel good. Could you see Don doing that? Don likes doing it his way and the same way. This gets old and clients and employees go elsewhere. I think that is why Roger likes Duck. Duck is thinking new and big!! He is ready to take risks to play with the big boys. Don continues to take a stab at Duck every chance he gets and yet Duck turns around and compliments Don in the next sentence. I used to think Duck was a slime, but I am starting to like him. Everytime Don takes a pop shot at Duck, I feel like he is acting like Betty taking pop shots towards her son Bobbie. Don needs to get "over himself" at times. He needs to take on the "Roger Attitude" (did you see Roger working on Sunday?) and pick his battles. I think he might be happier at work.
Frighgigh, why don't YOU post some thoughts "on what IS happening in the series or the production/execution" (as you said) and stop wasting posting space by informing everyone else your idea of what they should post? I like reading speculations as well as thoughts on what happened in the episodes, but what's wrong with having both???
Right on, scfan!
I think Pete and Trudy would go to Cape Cod for Labor Day weekend, myself.
That's a doozie, jamm54! But, don't you think maybe they might slum it a bit and just go to Jones Beach or Coney Island? And if Don and Betty adopted a Korean baby......!

Hey, I just want to show that I'm willing to analyze or create suppositions on just about anything!
Throw some garbage in the middle of the street! I'll analyze whose it is, where it came from, and what it means! haha
Obviously, I'm insane for the time being, and suffering from a severe case of "MadMen-itis"! LOL
Yeah, jamm---you and me both. We are crazy and proud of it! Anybody want any wild far-fetched speculations and long drawn out analyses (sp?) just ask the newly formed corporation known as "Babblers-R-Us" . All advice is free and worth it at twice the price.
I REALLY LIKE "Babblers-R-Us"! That's a perfect name for it. When I get on this forum, I do feel like I'm babbling. I think I'm missing the old "leaning over the back fence" gossiping scenerio that no longer exists in neighborhoods (and I was too young to experience it).
If you lean over the fence to talk to a neighbor these days, you'd probably be shot for harrassment! People are SO friendly now in person....(major sarcasm there).
Actually, don't ever come to Seattle if you're looking for friendly. It ain't gonna happen. The Scandanavian reserve and politeness (and I'm one of them!) just about drives newcomers to suicide (plus the overast)! Can't explain it myself - just takes years here to break through! I'm thinking of leaving myself, and I've been here 51 years! LOL
