Can we start a new thread...PLEASE??
damn the post for the menu was posted like 20 times...let get started on something else...like why Betty's son is about to push her over the edge...or why her daughter drinks?

it's Betty's time of the month?....oh and her daughter 'doesnt drink'...she found the glass and it's that old joke you hear mothers say when they want their kids to be quiet on an Airplane (or goto bed) they slip alittle booze in their bottle....knocks 'em out like NyQuil (or codine?).
Sides...they have to explain what the kid did all that time....maybe Joan or Peggy left it out on purpose?
Maybe the little boy reminds her of Don, and the son has become a target because she can't lash out at Don to the degree she would like to.
I think that Betty just wants the kids out of the way. It doesn't mean she doesn't love them - they're just in the way.
In the world today, we bend over backwards for our kids. We don't want them to be bored. Yet, there are Betty and Don in the living room reading (which they have every right to do) - the daughter is making Bloody Mary's (which blows my mind) and the son is playing with the hi fi. There's no supervision. In today's world, the family would go to a movie or bike riding or SOMETHING. Betty and Don are really removed from their children's lives and they are not aware of the repercussions.
My opinion is that the two kids will get into alcohol and drugs - we'll see next season (and we all know there will be a next season) after all it is the '60's - make love not war.
Weekends were like that when I was a kid, except they mixed their own drinks.
I was sent to church(Episcopalian) by myself, given money to go to matinee movies after.
I feared the wrath of God if I were to touch the huge art filled brief cases.
I was given my own hi-fi so as not to touch the adult's.
When at father's office it was more fun to be in the test kitchen.
Children born out of wedlock, and not given for adoption, weren't talked about even when all around knew. Many unanswered questions for young teens.
It does seem like the little girl (Sally) was acting out at Don's workplace, too, talking about Joan's boobs, and making Paul uncomfortable with the girlfriend questions. I wonder if the main point of those scenes wasn't just humor, though. There were a couple of times when Sally seemed to be staring and taking in what when on at that office, and I think the idea was to show what a cut-throat environment it is. She was right behind Harry and Campbell as they complained about Draper overhauling the plans for the American presentation. It's tough when people criticize your father, and not to your face.
I like your comment, Kay 54, by the way.
"Maybe the little boy reminds her of Don, and the son has become a target because she can't lash out at Don to the degree she would like to."
You have to think the people at SC would have loved if Sally were a couple of years older and they could have gotten some dirt on Draper, unmasked him. Of course, the irnony is that Draper's own family doesn't really know him!
I don't think Betty is taking her frustration about Don out on the Kids, I think she just wasn't ready to become a wife and mother at such a young age and is just bored. She's breaking up her routine with the horseback riding, but kids being kids will act out when they want attention, and I'm not sure how much time they actually get with Don. Ironically, Don only wants the best for his kids after his upbringing as witnessed by his refusal to spank Bobby.
Imagine what it must be like for him to keep everything bottled up all the time. He can't even tell Betty about his upbringing and why he won't discipline Bobby.
Yes thank Im new to this. How does one start a new thread?
