I noticed that too. According to wikipedia, Zenth had a "Space Command" wireless remote in 1955 so I suspect it was available tho not widespread.

Early ones did have cords. The first one I used at age 20 in '64 was a Zenith (probably the Space Command) that used a push button to produce a sound that was intercepted by a sensor on the front of the set, thus wireless. Series very accurately captures a sense of the times. Lots of cigarettes and booze. Lots of pressure and power.

We had one in the late 60's. It could only turn the set off and on and change the channel. It was clunky with two or three buttons. Remember, Don and Betty were staying at the Savoy, and the rooms probably had state of the art electronics.
