Sam Page, who plays Joan's husband, Greg Harris, talks about the toughest scene he had on Mad Men, juggling multiple projects, and whether he looks like he's from the early sixties

Q: Isn't everyone jealous that you're the guy who marries Joan?

A: Whenever I meet someone I don't know, they always give me that evil look like, "You're not a nice guy." But then everyone says, "Wow, but you do get to work with Christina." That's pretty fun, and she's amazing to work with.

Q: That scene in which you sexually assault Joan.

A: That was in my second episode. I didn't know that was coming up when I was cast. And then the next episode, as they were bringing me back, I ended up running into [writer] Robin Veith out somewhere, and she told me not to be upset about "what we make you do," and I said, "Okay, I'm just happy to be back." So I got the table read early, and I looked at a script and was paging through it, and my jaw hit the floor. It was not what I expected to be coming.

Q: How difficult was that scene for you?

A: Christina was so generous with the off-camera preparation and she couldn't have been more helpful and understanding. For me, it was my second day on set on a show I'm a huge fan of, so she made it incredibly easy.

Q: You were on another show, called America Dreams, that was about the same era as Mad Men. Do you have a specific interest in the era?

A: No, not specifically, but I really do love playing a character on a show that has a very specific style. And, any time you're doing a period piece, the show has a style and a language, and I really enjoy that as an actor. I think I've been told that I have a look that fits the period. So I'm all for as many shows being set in the early sixties as I can do.

Q: How have you been keeping busy in the off-season of Mad Men?

A: Well, mostly I've been working on Desperate Housewives, and I just finished three episodes of Greek. So I've been waiting for those to wrap up right about the same time we start up at Mad Men.

Q: Is it difficult juggling all those shows?

A: I don't actually have to juggle so much as the producers do, which is helpful because [Mad Men producer] Scott Hornbacher and George Perkins, at Desperate Housewives, are friends, so they make it work pretty seamlessly.
