Mad Men AM Radio Playlists Available Now on iTunes
Sure you're obsessed with the music on the series this Season. But ever wondered what sort of songs the characters of Mad Men would tune into on the AM dial? Starting this week, the iTunes store is featuring individual playlists for seven of the show's main players: Betty Draper, Don Draper, Salvatore Romano, Roger Sterling, Joan Harris, Peggy Olson and Pete Campbell. You can also listen to samples of these music tracks on each of the relevant character profile pages.
Since these lists were compiled by creator Matthew Weiner, producer Scott Hornbacher, composer David Carbonara and music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas among others, they actually provide you with fresh insight and a knowing nod: Patsy Cline's "Too Many Secrets" is on Betty's list; "I'll Be Seeing You," by Liberace is on Sal's. Other stars of a bygone era include Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald and The Platters.
The playlists (which each contain five songs) are now available on iTunes. The Season 3 DVD set will also include a special insert with tracks and downloads.

When I read this post, I was intrigued. I thought that the music selections would be based on who the characters are and what they are interested in, etc.
Instead, the selections are simply based on the title - taking things a bit too literally. Would someone who's feeling unhappy (Don) really have "Misery" as a favorite song? Would Betty actually like the song "Too Many Secrets" just because Don had a hidden past?
I have a job I love and I enjoy cooking, but that doesn't mean I would automatically like a song called "I Love My Job" or to songs all about food.
Wow, Peggy's is desperate and depressing. I agree with JaclynMcKewan, this really missed the mark!

People people people. tsk tsk tsk tsk. I just had a cataplexia fit. Why?
Because Betty would NEVER have been caught listening to Patsy Kline ! It didn't happen.
How old are some of you people??
In the first place, there was NOT that much different music that all these people listened to!
Even the question itself was written by somebody who is waaay too young to have known what was really going on in the late 50s and early 60s.
Look, people didn't listen to tons of "different" music. And you never wondered "what kind of music does so-and-so listen to?" Nope.
Most all the characters on MadMen listened to, and watched on TV "The Hit Parade". Period. Unless some of the guys were into jazz or other types of music. But on a daily basis, on the whole, it was Hit Parade. It was waaay too difficult to be different, or 'into' anything different.
And Betty? She listened to "How Much is that Doggie in the Window" and other songs by
Giselle Mackensie (sp?). She also probably liked
the MacGuire Sisters (sp?)...
Geeeeez. How young are some of you people? lol
WHO wrote this? Where is Elvis? How can you NOT have him in the mix somewhere? Hasn't he had hits since 1957? Lots of greats between Elvis and the invasion of the British. And you can't tell me these people are too old. Although my parents enjoyed Dean and Frank they were in Don and Betty's generation and they also listened to some of the really great Elvis music. How could you leave him out?
@Lindalnaus, et al, I agree with you. These are cutesy songs that describe the characters. They aren't what these people would have been listening to. This is very disappointing.
I agree, it seems silly and cutesy. They would have been listening to the Top 40, Hit Parade, or whatever. This transition time would include Dinah Shore, Patti Page, Andy Williams, etc as well as Elvis and some Motown. I vividly remember what was on the radio at that time. Betty would never have listened to Patsy Kline, she wasn't the country music type! Just because Sal is gay he wouldn't have been a Liberace fan. Get real!! I can't get the link to work but from what has been mentioned it sounds like the music chosen is pretty "off"...
Very disappointing. Whoever came up with this should have their foot run over by a John Deere!! Seriously, this is lame.
sorry but i also acquiesce. the music on the lists is mixed -from the 60s through the 90s. just weird. come on AMC get it together. (by the way, i was able to access the itunes by logging into my AMC account first).
only thing missing is Skeeter Davis' the end of the world.
i loved hearing that in the show!
And...Patsy Cline wasnt just big among country lovers. My parents loved the Beatles, Elvis and Patsy Cline.
Hoping the Beatles make an appearance next season as it should be approaching 1964!
