Emmy Results and Who Wore What Dominate the Papers This Week
Not surprisingly Emmy coverage (with Mad Men's repeat wins therein) is the big news this week. Here are some of the highlights across the different outlets:
• The award show's results were reported in: USA Today, which also noted that Matt Weiner received a "congratulatory bear hug from series star Jon Hamm." Coverage in the Washington Post, the NY Post, the Chicago Tribune, and the Miami Herald as well. Us Weekly, Star and OK magazines also had plenty of red carpet and party coverage (no links).
• The New York Times has this quote from Weiner on the repeat drama win: "We worked very hard to not have it stink the second year."
• The LA Times took a look at some of the fashions of the night, noting, "Maybe it's the 'Mad Men' influence that has almost every guy looking dapper."
• The NY Daily News was talking gowns too: "all eyes were on the 'Mad Men' girls -- and they delivered."
• Chicago's Sun-Times has a fun piece about what you can learn from TV about apartment living and includes Peggy Olson as an example under "Find the Perfect Roommate."
• Variety has a feature on costume designer Janie Bryant. Fun fact: She cites her grandmother, Etoile Lillard Chestnutt, as her role model.
• The trade also looks at January Jones as part of its 2009 Women's Impact Report as she talks about causes that are important to her.

.....Some people pooh-poohed Lizzie's gown, but I thought she looked very pretty and glamorous in it, and her hair and makeup were lovely.
Jan's Versace was totally AMAZING, especially in light of the fact that she doesn't consult a stylist, and that (unlikely) leather was part of the design.
It was one of the most unique gowns I've ever seen on the red carpet. She has really been rocking some fabulous frocks lately. If there is anyone (not already in fashion) I could see starting a line of her own, it's Miss Jones.
Congratulations to all on the Best Drama Series win.
(Oh, and Jon and John - you were ROBBED!!)
January Jones was THE best dressed in the entire Emmy show - and in all recent award shows, in my estimation. Not that I'm surprised, but she looked amazing and I loved that dress.
I thought "our girls" looked wonderful. too, dresses, makeup, hair the whole bit.
And, yes, Dry...I've said it every time Jon lost....he was most DEFINITELY ROBBED ROBBED ROBBED! So maddening. And John, too!
Always next year, of course.....let us hope for justice....
Yes, Dry we were robbed yet again. I'm told that actors vote on the acting awards, and all I can attribute it to is professional jealousy. As usual, though, they all looked and behaved marvelously!
January Jones BEST dressed and so was Jon Hamm. They looked amazing! They look like a real-life Barbie & Ken.
John Slattery and his wife looked great.
Sorry Elizabeth Moss! (strictly fashion-wise)
the wrinkled brown dress and the heavy necklace made you look heavy and older.
All Mad Men actors deserved to win an Emmy!
.....I'd love to see Christina in a sleek, structured, strapless, geometric, brightly-colored (pink?), youthful Calvin Klein for the Golden Globes.
And sleek, high "up-do" and heels (doesn't she usually wear flats?). Understated, drop-diamond earrings.
[Hey, kathiemarie!]
.....3Martinis.....Maybe it's not the very first choice of all the choices re: Lizzie's gown, but the intention is there with the Hollywood glamour, the "finished" makeup, hair and jewelry, so I think it's important to acknowledge that.
