Another episode, another batch of reviews. Not to mention more pre-Emmy buildup. The big night is just over a week away while the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony is tomorrow. What made the news until then?

• Among the outlets getting into the reviewer action is the New York Times, which invokes The Sopranos again, saying that Peggy's announcement to move into the city " unleashes her mother's full-on, stifling Livia."

The Boston Globe praises the show for leaving "it all suspended, little bits of melodrama, quiet character revelations, cultural snapshots. You have to return to the episodes after you've seen them, put the pieces together, to really see this show."

The LA Times assesses the relationship between Gene and Sally in Episode 4 observing, "Grandpa Gene has proven a powerful lifeline for our tutu-loving girl."

• Other reviews came in from Entertainment Weekly, the Star-Ledger, New York Magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Wall Street Journal and even ABC News' blog.

The Hollywood Reporter takes a look at Matthew Weiner in the pre-Emmy buildup. Says the trade about the series creator: "He has one indispensable arbiter: His wife. 'I can't think of many other shows where people will openly admit that, but I have complete confidence in her opinion,' he says." (Not linked.)

• There's also a story in the Reporter about how shows like Mad Men are streamlining their workflow by not transferring to tape

The Cleveland Plain Dealer talks about the fashions of Mad Men

• In this week's TV Guide, the Watercooler wonders about the padding of the ladies this season, resolving, "the women of yesteryear might appear 'unreal' ... because they're so at odds with today's norm of superskinny, silicone-stuffed TV actresses." Also in the issue, Jared Harris/Lane Pryce earns a cheer for "bringing a new element of mystery to Mad Men." (No link, Sep. 13 issue.)

The LA Times assesses Emmy possibilities in the best actor field.

People magazine says among actresses, they like Elisabeth Moss (no link). But you can watch Ms. Moss on the Bonnie Hunt Show this week in this video.

The Indianapolis Star puts together its own predictions.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution chats with costume designer Janie Bryant.

• Included in Rolling Stone's 50 Best Reasons to Watch TV is "All-American Hero" Jon Hamm at number five.

• And finally, you can catch Michael Gladis in the web series, The Interrogator on the Sundance Channel's site.
