Mad Men Wins Emmys for Best Drama and Writing for Second Year in a Row

Mad Men picked up two wins as the 61st Emmy awards were handed out tonight in Los Angeles. For the second year in a row, the show was recognized for Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
This year's writing win was for the episode "Meditations in an Emergency." (Last year, the prize was received for the pilot, "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.") Matthew Weiner accepted the Emmy on behalf of himself and his fellow scribe Kater Gordon -- who held the statuette. Kidded Weiner in his thank you, "When you get something like this it makes writing look fun... but it's not."
Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston took home the lead actor prize, another consecutive win. (Read more here.)

Well Done
I love this show and believe it to be the best thing on tv. I watched the Emmys only because of this show. Why did Matt Weiner have to put a taint on my experience by alienating half the country with his comment regarding the year being so great due to Mad Men's success and the "election". I'm a conservative and I like his product - why go out of his way to upset half his market?
Sure its his right to do so - free speech. I'm not advocating censorship or boycotts. I'm questioning the business rationale of the entertainment industry when making political statements at an event where they are courting the nation as a whole.
I'm a marketing professional and we go to extreme lengths to ensure our product appeals to as many as possible and does not hint at offending anyone. I drive a BMW and will continue to do so. However, I ponder what BMW's target market's political affiliation is most likely to be.
Congratulations Matt and everyone! We Maddicts know what a gem Mad Men is and look forward to another great season.
MAJOR CONGRATS to all you fine folks! Talk about a Perfect Storm of talent! You've got lots of long-standing fans here who've been with you from day one, and we applaud each of you! (It's torture having to wait a week to see what you've got in store for us!)
It's easy, DonDon. You're a marketing professional, and Weiner is not. He's a writer, an artist. He doesn't have to sell his product, there are people to do that. And they're not artists.
Now, if conservative viewers stop watching Mad Men because of its creator's political tendency, what would that say about them?
This is an excellent show and I congratulate them for their Emmy win.
I agree with DonDon on this one and I'm not a marketing professional. I watch television and listen to music for entertainment. I don't care to hear political opinions and I agree that adding it (their opinion) where it doesn't belong can potentially alienate viewers.
I disagree that Weiner isn't selling his product - being a writer or an artist doesn't have anything to do with it. Anytime a representative of a show gets up to speak or, in this case, accept an award, they are selling their product.
I don't want to hear Janine Garrafalo calling me brain-damaged , I don't want to hear Dave Matthews calling me racist and I do not want to hear Matthew Weiner talking about the election. They are paid to entertain and they should keep their opinions to themselves and do their job.
I too am a conservative and adore this show. I also agree with DonDon. These Hollywood people need to just "shut up and sing"!
More happily, for those of us who've brooded enough with Don Draper, there were big wins for ABC's superior "Modern Family," which took the Emmys for best comedy series, comedy writing and a supporting actor win for Eric Stonestreet.
As for "Glee" itself, the hit Fox comedy about singing high school underdogs won two awards: supporting actress for Jane Lynch (as the show's track-suited villain); and a directing Emmy for travel insurance pregnant the show's creator, Ryan Murphy, who noted that "Glee" is really just a show about learning. Murphy thanked his art teachers, for "teaching me how to sing and how to finger paint."
