Talk Forum and Comments - What You're Saying

MM3-Poster.jpg

AMCtv.com awards the Talk forum and blog commenters quoted in our weekly "What You're Saying" post with prizes like a Mad Men pen or a Mad Men poster (limit one per person).

New season, new commenter prizes, but always a lot to talk about. Maddicts were remarking on Season 3's promos, how they were planning to watch the premiere and making plans for a Mad Men avatar-only virtual cocktail party.

• "My favorite is...'Utterly Seductive' That music just nails it...! And the clip of Don's command: FIND A WAY TO WATCH THIS.... So dramatic, so compelling...so 'mad men.'" -- jackie_monroe

• "I'm fixing myself a rye and ginger and taking the phone off the hook and warning my family DO NOT DISTURB unless the blinkin' house is on fire. Interrupt and die, people." -- Auburn Annie

• "Create your character early and join us. This is as close as we will come to being able to talk directly to each other for a few hours. The most fun will be in seeing how everyone represents themselves!" -- greytone

Log onto the Talk forum to join in the conversation or start a Mad Men topic of your own. As always, your comments throughout the blog are also welcome.

Can a newcomer start at year 3 and enjoy and understand the plot and characters or would I have to obtain the old episodes.

Thanks,
Beverly

Congrats, guys!

Enjoy that poster...maybe frame it up in a thin black frame like the ad campaign ones on SC's walls!

Tonight's episode was exciting. Looking forward to another great season. I once worked in an office just like this with similar characters. Excellent show.

I love that Don chose to ignore what he saw in Sal's hotel room.

Don could hardly be all that judgemental, considering his past, how he took up with the free spirits in California, and his many affairs (including the stewardess).

His only comment to Sal was " limit your exposure " (from **behind**).

I must have missed something

1. The California 'free spirits' seemed to be skipped over. Was it ever explained?

2. The final episode of season 2 closes with Dan and his wife holding hands after she told him she was with child. NOW, were just suppose to jump into this new series as though nothing ever happened?

Personally, I think it stinks, I've waited a long time for this series to begin and I'm disapointed.

Vicky,

I don't think Don had much of a choice.

Remember, Sal now had proof that Don cheats on his wife.
The only other one who knows for sure that Don cheats on Betty is Peggy, and Don knows she can keep a secret.
I don't think he knows enough about Sal, or knows Sal well enough to trust him with his secret.

Incredibly annoying that the scheduled time was off. The DVR cut off the last few seconds or minutes of the show.

Damn damn damn.

Where was Duck in the season opener? Isn't he supposed to be president of SC now? Lots of Bertram and Roger, but not a glimpse of Duck. Hmmmmm....

Something seemed to be missing last night. I can't put my finger on it, but it at times almost seemed boring which never was the case for me in the first two seasons. Maybe there wasn't enough going on with Peggy. That story line provokes a lot of thought and reflection, whereas last night just seemed more like a soap opera.

As a former Baltimoron, I was impressed with the detail about “Friendship” Airport, the Belvedere Hotel and Haussner’s restaurant (which needed more painting on the wall). Then a few scenes later you mention one of the accounts, “Chevron,” a company name that did not exist in 1962.

[From Wikipedia: Standard Oil of California and Gulf Oil merged in 1984, the largest merger in history at that time. Under the antitrust regulation, SoCal divested many of Gulf's operating subsidiaries, and sold some Gulf stations and a refinery in the eastern United States. SoCal changed the name to Chevron Corporation.]

I think this was one that got by your continuity checker.
