First up: Pete Campbell.

An early one that I felt told me all I needed to know about Pete Campbell:
Season 1, episode 4: "New Amsterdam"
Of course I love you. I'm giving up my life to be with you.
To his fiancee,Trudy on the phone (before he leaves for his bachelor party) ~~
"I love you, I'm giving up my life to be with you, aren't I?"
From:
Season 1, Episode 1, "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"
Ooops, our posts crossed, baltimoremadmenfan!
I would apologize, but, I couldn't help it!
Good luck!
"Absolutely."
Best one word response ever. Answered to Dr. Stone, season 2, episode 5.
I do love that "Absolutely" quote, but "Hell's bells, Trudy!" was pretty great stuff.
Keep up the good work, guys. It's nice to find a well-kept "official" blog. You all bring the goods!
Oops! Forgot to mention that my favorite Pete line, "Hell's bells, Trudy!" was in "The Mountain King," season 2, episode 12.
"I'm working my way up."
Pete, Episode 1, Season 1, upon meeting Peggy for the first time, giving her a sleazy once over as an extra added bargain.
"Did we get Miracle Whip?"
watching Father Gil and Peggy in the office in ep 8, season 2 "A Night to Rmemeber."
"I sure as hell wouldn't want a kid here watching this donnybrook!"
From Season 2 Episode 5 "The New Girl"
"You have your fingers in your ears? It's a Chip 'n' Dip. You have your friends over. You put chips on the sides and dip in the middle."
Season One, Episode Seven, 'Red in the Face'
"Fat farm. I thought we had verification?"
In reference to Peggy.
Season Two, Episode One, "For Those Who Think Young"
"Same price as a chip 'n' dip". Pete holding the rifle in his office after he makes the chip 'n' dip exchange at the department store. Season One, Episode Seven
One of my favorites is also a recent one from season three: "Why does it have to be like this? Why can't I get anything good all at once?"
I think it still counts as a Pete quote, even though it's written....the message on his honeymoon postcard from Niagara Falls: "Greetings from the wettest place on earth!". Totally gross, but totally Pete! (From Season 1, Episode 2: "The Ladies Room")
"HELLS BELLS TRUDY!" from Season 2, Episode 12: "The Mountain King".
A man like you I'd follow into combat blindfolded, and I wouldn't be the first. Am I right, buddy?
Forgot to add the episode #
"Mad Men: Smoke Gets in Your Eyes (#1.1)"
Ah, Pete Campbell. So many good ones, but I have to go with:
"I WILL shoot you."
Season 1, episode 12.
"Adding money and education doesn't take the rude edge out of people." -- Season 1, Episode 1
Though I would have loved to use Pete's entire hunting fantasy (my hands-down favorite), unfortunately it is more of a monologue than a quote (a monologue so incredibly awesome it makes a person stagger around the office and want to consume a ham sandwich and a cherry danish, "the big one in the back").
"You. I’ve been thinking about everything that’s going on. And I thought, Who would care if I was gone. I mean, Trudy would care, but she doesn’t know me. But you do. And I know you. And I think you’re perfect."
Pete's confession to Peggy that he loves her -- Season 2, Episode 13, "Meditations in an Emergency"
Thanks!
Pete: Oh, I just saw Tony Curtis in the men's room Don!
Don: Handing out towels?
Pete: Tony Curtis Don... a thing like that!
Whoops, that was from Episode 2.11 "The Jet Set"
"What do people do?" "Is that what you would do?"
coversation with Don after finding out his father died in the plane crash
Flight One
That's "Flight 1" episode 2 Season 2
Hi 60's child. ;o) Nice to see you back on the blog. Cheers.
"Cruel? What am I supposed to say? I’m married."
Season 1, Episode 10
"Hell's bells, Trudy!" is absolutely Pete's greatest quote.
Season 2. Ep 12: "The Mountain King"
"It's a chip-n-dip!" Season 1 episode 7.
Boo. I was totally going to go with "Hell's bells, Trudy!" but... my second favorite is:
Trudy: I love the sound of your voice right now.
Pete: That's because I'm already drunk!
Season 3, Episode 1, "Out of Town"
"If I'm going to die, I want to die in Manhattan."
Season 2, Episode 13 (Meditations in an Emergency)
"Why would you tell me that?"
Season 2, Finale.
"The President is a product. Don't forget that."
from Season 1, Episode 10, Long Weekend
"All right, who put the chinamen in my office?"
hahahaha when he came back from his honeymoon I laughed way too hard at that. Even used it as an AIM away message for awhile
Pete IS New York in this quote, and I love it:
"If I'm going to die, I want to die in Manhattan."
From "Meditations in an Emergency" (Season 2, Episode 13)
"Hell's bells, Trudy!" is my favorite. I have to post it even though it's been used already. It's from "The Mountain King," season 2, episode 12.
"If I am going to die, I am going to die in Manhattan." Pete Campbell
Still sums up Pete the best; the quote to his fiance: "Of course, I love you. I'm giving up my life to be with you."
Whoops forgot the season and episode.
"I love you, I'm giving up my life to be with you, aren't I?"
From:
Season 1, Episode 1, "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"
"Im a Red-Blooded American Male!"
the pefect Pete quote.
Three Sundays-Season 2
Referring to Matherton, a guest from his wedding to the returns clerk. S01E07 Red In The Face.
"By the way, Matherton, he has the clap."
Classic two faced Pete. $
To Peggy: "You're in the city now; it wouldn't be a sin for us to see you legs. And if you pull your waist in a little bit, you might look like a woman."
Season 1, Episode 4, "New Amsterdam"
About Rachel Menken but, as always, the reflection in the mirror too...
"Adding money and education doesn’t take the rude edge out of people."
But best of all, Pete shows himself in a nutshell (from the New Amsterdam episode):
"You know what? I have good ideas. In fact, I used to carry around a notebook and a pen, just to keep track. Direct marketing? I thought of that. It turned out it already existed, but I arrived at it independently. And then I come to this place, and you people tell me that I’m good with people, which is strange, because I’d never heard that before."
Peggy Olson: Mr. Rumsen liked my ideas in the brainstorming thingy.
Pete Campbell: Sanitary napkins?
Peggy: No. Lipstick.
Pete: What’d I say?
Why does it have to be like this? Why can't I get anything good all at once?
Classic, whiney Pete!
From the latest:
Paul Kinsey: Look, now they'll trust me more, when I help them
Pete Campbell: Do you even listen to yourself sometimes?
My all time fave Pete quote is "Duck called Burt Peterson a mongoloid. What a leader of men"
His gift from his wife for his promotion, the pen set that says:
"Peter Campbell
The buck stops here"
ha ha ha
My all time fave Pete quote is "Duck called Burt Peterson a mongoloid. What a leader of men"
The New Girl, Season 2
It's popular but it's the best: "Hell's bells, Trudy!"
The Mountain King, season 2, episode 12.
Pete Campbell: A man like you I'd follow into combat blindfolded, and I wouldn't be the first. Am I right, buddy?
Don Draper: Let's take it a little slower. I don't want to wake up pregnant.
Pete Campbell to Don Draper
" I think we make a good team"
"Are we done here?" Campbell, with a big grin on his face. "No." Draper.
From season one, when he wants Trudy to get his article published:
"You don't want me to have what I want."
I use that one on my wife all the time...!
Hate to keep reposting, but it seems you need the # as well, so here goes, again:
My all time fave Pete quote is "Duck called Burt Peterson a mongoloid. What a leader of men"
Season 2 Episode 5 "The New Girl"
"What the hell, Freddy?"
(Pete is utterly appalled that drunk Freddy Rumsen has peed himself, right before a pitch meeting.)
From the episode "Six Month Leave"
Season 1, Episode 4: "New Amsterdam"
Pete says to Peggy, "You're in the city now, it wouldn't be a sin for us to see you legs. And if you pull your waist in a little bit, you might look like a woman."
Season 1, Episode 4: "New Amsterdam"
Pete says to Peggy, "You're in the city now, it wouldn't be a sin for us to see your legs. And if you pull your waist in a little bit, you might look like a woman."
from "new amseterdam"
Pete Campbell: I won’t let you down, Don.
Roger Sterling: Jesus, Campbell! Don’t ever say that.
I love Pete and Rodger. The pure ernestness and posterior kissing look on pete's face makes te quote (combined with rodger's look of disgust)
Pete Campbell: A man like you I'd follow into combat blindfolded, and I wouldn't be the first. Am I right, buddy?
It's the perfect Brownnose!
Pete Campbell: A man like you I'd follow into combat blindfolded, and I wouldn't be the first. Am I right, buddy?
It's the perfect Brownnose!
Season 3: Episode 1
"Awwwww... why don't I ever get anything good all at once?"
The perfect whiny-spoiled-brat-wussy quote. It actually made me vomit in my mouth a little.
Season 3: Episode 1
"Awwwww... why don't I ever get anything good all at once?"
The perfect whiny-spoiled-brat-wussy quote. It actually made me vomit in my mouth a little.
There is no quote that will ever be better than the little dance he did when he thought he was going to be head of accounts!
Season 1, Episode 3: Marriage of Figaro
"...and Mr George Pellham over here, who is from research, and who has more degree's than a Russian protractor"
Sorry, I put this earlier, but missed the episode number:
"Why does it have to be like this? Why can't I get anything good all at once?"
Season 3, Episode 1
"I'm sorry I didn't lower his expectations enough."
Season 1, Episode 4 "New Amsterdam"
"So maybe I'm the end of the line."
The New Girl, season 2 episode 5
As Pete says this, you can hear viewers around the world cheering.
"If I'm going to die, I want to die in Manhattan."
Season 2, Meditations in an Emergency, Episode 13
"The President is a product. Don't forget that."
Pete is a true, although misguided, adman.
Counting the days till I'll have Don Draper's office. It helps me fall asleep.
"It's a chip 'n dip. You put the chips on one side and the dip goes in the middle. It's a chip 'n dip."
Season 2, Episode 7 "Red In The Face"
"And . . . I like you!"
How do you spell sycophant Pete?
Season 3 Episode 1
Season 1 / Ep 5
Pete: You don't want me to have what I want...
Trudy: I could have gotten you the New Yorker.....
Pete: So, why didn't you....
Ohh....he's sneaky...and she's a whiner! LOL
Season 1 - episode 10: "Long Weekend"
"The President is a product, don't forget that."
Season 2
Episode 6 "Maidenform"
Pete-"I find they both open easily"
Referring to the difference between two different bras.
Love hearing Pete pout.: "Why does it have to be like this? Why can't I get anything good all at once?"
He did everything but stomp his feet. ha. Pete can be such a crybaby for one who wants so much to be cool. :}
Pete has so many, but the best one ever -- the one that perfectly sums up Campbell is non-verbal:
The shrug he gives Don in Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, after "dressing down" peggy.
Pete: What are you Amish or something...Wait a minute, I'm not finished here...
Don: You'll have to excuse Campbell, he left his manners at the frat house.
Peggy: blink, blink, bobble, blink
Pete: Shrug
Outstanding. One of the best things I've ever seen on television. LOL.
"It's a chip'n'dip. We got two."
Season 1, episode 7 "Red In the Face"
"Where's Howdy Dowdy?"
-Referring to Peggy (Season 1)
"A thing like that"
Multiple references - it's his favorite thing to say.
The President is a product. Don't forget that.
"Mad Men: Long Weekend (#1.10)" (2007)
[watching JFK political ad]
"By the way...Matherton? He has the clap."
"Red in the Face," Season 1, Episode 7
"This is ridiculous. If I'm going to die, I want to die in Manhattan."
Episode 13, Season 2, "Meditations in an Emergency"
I loved this from season one - set the tone for exactly who Pete Campbell is - chauvinist, and always looking to give a dig (to bolster his own insecure self).
"You're in the city now; it wouldn't be a sin for us to see you legs. And if you pull your waist in a little bit, you might look like a woman."
Season 1, Episode 4
“Maybe we should try and exploit the danger, instead of fighting it." Season 1 Ep. 3
"Tony Curtis Don! A thing like that."
Episode 2.11---The Jet Set
From The Inheritance: "Remember 'Rope'?" (In discussing with his brother how they could dispose of their battle-axe mom.) Probably obscure, but that one made me laugh for so long.
A Classic Bourgeois Pete remark:
aid to Don on trip to LA
"Where are the valets? So much for cheap labor"
MMS2, The Jet Set
You never let me talk about what I want to talk about.
Season 2 Episode 13 - Meditations in an Emergency
"It's a chip'n'dip. We got two."
Season 1, episode 7 "Red In the Face"
"The President is a product. Don't forget that" Season 1 The Episodde called "Long Weekend"
This is soooo Pete -- always trying to manage his insecurities....
"I'm very important to the agency - my absence is felt."
Season 2 Episode 6: "Maidenform"
Classic Pete has to be "Why can't I get anything I want all at once?" He's like a big naive kid. That's why I love him and hate him all at once!
"I apologize that I haven't been more welcoming socially...it seemed until your wife arrives...I didn't want to make it awkward with a threesome...although now that I think of it, perhaps your being alone is all the more reason I should have offered your hospitality..."
Episode 1, Season 3 - "Out of Town"
Pete's postcard refers to Niagara Falls as "The wettest place on earth." He's on a honeymoon, right?" asks Peggy. "Hasn't left the room, apparently." Ken replies.
Season 1 Episode 2:Ladies Room "That's when I knew I would like Pete!"
"It's a chip and dip!"
Season 1, Episode 7
"hell's bells, Trudy" FTW!
oops, forgot the episode. Season 2, episode 12, "The Mountain King."
" A Thing like that" I think Pete would say that if he came in and caught Trudy in bed with Charlie Fiddich! Also, "Peter Dykeman Campbell" to Willi, Raqui, and Joy in episode 211, The Jet Set. Sums everything up about Pete. He has ridden on his family's coattails and their name his entire life, and he drops the full name to try to take attention away from the connectionless Don Draper and let these pseudo-aristocrats know he's one of them. Of course, being Pete, he fails miserably and looks foolish!
Trudy: "If you loved me, you would want to be with me on a night like tonight."
Pete (with no intention of leaving NYC with Trudy) "You're right."
That scene said so much about Pete with so few words.
Season 2, Episode 13 "Meditations in an Emergency"
TRUDY: I just don't understand why the bear is talking.
PETE: The bear is not talking. It's what the hunter imagines the bear to be thinking.
Season 1, Episode 5, 5G
Pete to Peggy:
That´s some imagination you got. Good thing youré a writer now. What do you need me for...
Hells bells Trudy!
A few more Pete quotes I'm surprised nobody has mentioned.
"I don't like you like this." (to Peggy, 1x8)
"I love watching you walk..." (to Hildy, 1x9)
"Am I going to cry?" (to Don, 2x2)
"I hate my mother. What do you think about that? Come on, you must have opinion." (to Peggy 2x10)
"I bet the Russians are reconsidering now we made a stand." (to Don, 2x13)
"The bear is not talking. It's what the hunter imagines the bear to be thinking" - Season 1 Episode 5 "5G"
Cooper: "[JFK] doesn't even wear a hat."
Pete: "I don't know. You know who else doesn't wear a hat? Elvis. That's what we're dealing with."
Cooper: "Remind me to stop hiring young people."
Season 01, Episode 07, "Red in the Face"
"Boys Life. Heh, I can see it now, my story right next to an ad for exploding cigars..."
Pete is my very favorite character on the show, and there are so many good quotes to pull from him. However, I laughed so hard at this one last week (S.3 E.2 Love Among the Ruins), and at the chuckle it earned from the MSG guys:
"My great great grandfather Cylus Dychman would have turned his boat around if he had known that the city would one day be filled with cry babies."
I just makes me think of all the times Pete acted like a spoiled little brat. I love it!!!
Pete to Peggy:
That´s some imagination you got. Good thing youré a writer now. What do you need me for...
Episode 1:10
He have so many great lines. He is the best.
Season 2, Episode 10, "The Inheritance":
to his mother:
"Your husband spent everything you had - spent it with strangers."
Just so evocative of the hypocrisy that is Pete's family. All appearances.
After Pete suggests that he should bring in a dog to make the office seem more easygoing, Duck asks "What breed do you have?"
Pete: "Oh I don't have one. I was going to get one for the office."
"Maidenform" season 2, episode 6
"Why can't I get anything I want all at once!"
"Out of Town" Season 3, Episode 301
Pete says to Peggy [after Peggy tells him that she had his baby]: "Why are you telling me this?"
Episode 13 of Season 2
From Smoke Gets in Your Eyes Season 1, episode 1. A man like you I’d follow into combat blindfolded, and I wouldn’t be the first. Am I right, buddy?
"The president is a product, don't forget that."
Season 1, episode 10 "Long Weekend"
Season 1, Episode 1: "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes"
Pete Campbell: Of course I love you. I'm giving up my life to be with you.
"So you would rather blow yourself up than make me head of accounts."
Epi 12 Nixon Vs Kennedy
If you want to woo me, you'll have to buy me my own lunch. Season 3 Episode 5
“as the Bible says… enjoy your fatted calf”.
Mad Men Season 3, Episode 4: The Arrangements
- "A thing like that!"
- "Hell's bells, Trudy!"
- "You know what? I have good ideas. In fact, I used to carry around a notebook and a pen, just to keep track. Direct marketing? I thought of that. It turned out it already existed, but I arrived at it independently. And then I come to this place, and you people tell me that I’m good with people, which is strange, because I’d never heard that before."
- "Of course I love you. I'm giving up my life to be with you"
- "I hate my mother. What do you think about that? Come on, you must have opinion."
- "Remember 'Rope'?"
- "You're right, I should just lay down and we should run together holding hands."
He makes me laugh at least once in every episode!!
"You're right, I should just lay down and we should run together holding hands." - To season 3, episode 1.
Season 3 - Episode 7 Seven Twenty Three
"Why is it that a man on his own is an object of pity?"
