Next Week, New York Goes Mad for Mad Men
For all you Maddicts in NYC, prepare for next week's onslaught of Mad Men-themed events around the city. Next week, special activities -- ranging from the artsy to the sporty to the boozy -- kick into gear. And it all culminates on Sun., Aug.16 at 10PM with a spectacular outdoor screening of the Season 3 premiere in Times Square.
• Starting Mon., Aug. 10, the Hilton hotels on 1335 Ave. of the Americas or 55 Church St. are serving up period-perfect cocktails. That means that you can order a Brandy Alexander or a Tom Collins without having the bartender go "Huh?"
• On Wed., Aug. 12, the Museum of Arts & Design (aka MAD) gets into the spirit with a 3-minute loop showcasing advertising from the era, along with signature designs from the Sterling Cooper portfolio such as Belle Jolie and Popsicle. This public art piece will run through Sat., Aug. 15 and be projected on the museum's facade, so get there after dark.
• For sports fans, the New York Mets celebrate their team's inaugural decade (the '60s of course!) with a special section designated for Mad Men fans at Citi Field. Lucky attendees will receive fedoras but everyone can enjoy the period cocktails served at some of the stadium's bars. The game against the San Francisco Giants begins 7:10PM on Fri., Aug. 14.
And lastly, the week winds up with the premiere of Season 3 broacast on the big screen in Times Square on Sun., Aug. 16 at 10PM. Be sure to come dressed in your '60s best for a pre-screening costume contest at 8PM.

Swell! What have you got planned for us poor folks out on the prairie?
I'm fixing myself a rye and ginger and taking the phone off the hook and warning my family DO NOT DISTURB unless the blinkin' house is on fire. Interrupt and die, people.
No free fedoras or period-perfect cocktails for us, z!
The great plains/prairie folk are just for ratings purposes.....
sigh...
I'm going to fill up my MM mug with a nice frozen daiquiri............ and pout....
ha?
Oooh, right, SCfan, I have to remember to get my MM mug out and fill it with something to sip while I watch - maybe I'll make a game of it, and take a sip every time someone on the show takes a drink of something...I'd best be drinking plain iced tea, or I will be completely snockered by the time the show is over.
Yes, Auburn Annie, to disturb me while I watch Episode 1, Season 3, is to risk serious injury...I better warn my husband. I hope there is a ball game or something on to keep him occupied in the other room.
AHHH! Tempting to fly to the City for these events! They sound so fab.
Any Denver fans out here? We should plan something for us western fans.
:)
GREAT way to kick off the new season! I would love to attend these events next week, unfortunately I'm in the midwest :( I always seem to miss these events because I always read about them too late. Should be a gas though!
Great PR! Being a native New Yorker transplanted to SF, I am jealous.
I will just have to prepare Tanqueray and tonics for my boyfriend and me when we watch the season premiere.
Don't think I'll be making it to NYC so I'll have to think up something special myself. Tom Collins', Brandy Alexander's, and of course Old Fashioned's at my house on the 16th!!
...Yeah Man, Maddicts!
...let's do all remember now (on the 16th) to be SURE to "fill to this line" like the mug says (but not necessarily with "whiskey")!
Whoopeee...can't wait....after Sun. it's only one more week!
Hey All,
Justin Zell here. My gal and I will be in time square around 9pm. I think it might be neat to see my face on the big screen. Assuming I made the cut. Never know with these things. Either way it looks like a fun time. See you there.
Justin
Well Hello, stranger!
Have you done your walk on yet? I know you can't tell any details but, if so, was it fun and was it what you expected?
And did they ask you to do it as "Joan"?? (just kiddin'!)

I am drinking with little Sally, whatever she whips up for me I am drinking. I may let her smoke some of my ciggys. tee hee...S.tary
I was just in NYC last week and am going to miss the fun. Trying to organize friends for an exclusive night out vintage style in DC though....(just bought a lovely red chiffon number that works very well with pearls and stillettos that needs to be paired with a martini or two..)
I'm not an aspiring model or actress but have been collecting and dressing vintage for years and was thrilled to have a chance to showcase one of my frocks via the contest. What a great promotion! See if you think I'm "five star" material here: http://madmencastingcall.amctv.com/photos/view/3661 ).

although i could go watch in time square (which would be cool), i think i'll snuggle up on my couch with a stiff cocktail to make sure i can see and hear every detail - and be in my pjs at the same time.

My wife and I couldn't wait for season 3 to begin and instead we are through watching Mad Men after the disgraceful display of gay porn. If that makes me antigay then I guess that is what I am. I didn't think it was the type of show that subscribed to the anything to shock the audience mentality. Since we no likee, we'll no watchee.

New York's Times Square was whisked back in time for the Mad Men season 4 premiere. A 60s-style fashion show was put on for over 7,000 fans, many dressing up as Mad Men characters with Ginault watches. And people think Trekkies are a bit odd. Ginault watch company (www.ginault.com), based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, keeps a comprehensive collections of vintage and new Rolex timepieces to preserve the legacy of Swiss haute horlogerie. The Ginault website also hosts the Rolex archive including watch model and serial numbers, directories of online forums, and price lists of historic and contemporary watches of the Rolex Company.
Thanks a lot for enjoying this exemplar article with me. I am appreciating it real untold! Superficial cheeky to other major article. Morality chance to the author! all the soul!
