According to Betty, Sally broke it with Don's hammer. Sally said she did it to keep Don from going away again. Don's response to Sally was that he would always come back to her.

Sigh - I got 7/10 on the quiz though in my own defense I was only 11 at the time and I was on the phone with my sister (who is vacationing in Vegas) while I took it. Oddly enough I got the political questions with barely a thought but the cultural ones I missed a few.

Yep... Sally broke the latch on the suitcase because she didn't want Don to go "out of town". The last time he went out of town he didn't come back for a while... and during this time Betty locked Sally in a closet with the suitcase as punishment for smoking.

The clasp on Don's suitcase was broken after Sally whacked at it with a hammer. She didn't want Don to leave again, which I'm guessing alluded back to when Betty threw Don out of the house and he was living at the Roosevelt.

Sally admitted breaking the clasp to prevent her father, Don, from taking the trip. He punished her by saying the repair cost would come out of her allowance. Sally responded that she does not receive an allowance.
