Wow, thanks, Lily!

Great trip down memory lane (AND peek at everyone's "look" for S3---Peggy looks beautiful!
No more drab Peggy!) Not to mention Joan and January...absolutely gorgeous, as usual. But, of course, Don is the most beautiful of all!

I think you've about covered them all...

Only problem, now I'm more anxious than ever!

And I thought I was as excited as I could possibly be for Season 3 before!

I understand that these are ten from a very long list, but I would have definitely included the revelation of the deeper relationship between Don and Peggy. After Don crashes his car with Bobbie, and he's waiting in the police station for we-don't-know-who, to see Peggy walk in absolutely shocked me!

.....You know what's crazy? You can watch these epis over and over, and it's something new, at a new level, literally every time.

It's ridiculous, but in re-watching these trailers, and some of the former episodes, it still induces chill-bumps, just like the first time, and I'm a hard sell.

That's some great art.

.....How about when she wakes up in the mental hospital, with him sitting there.

Again, there aren't a lot of bosses in this world who would go out of their way for a secretary like that.

Who won the L.A. and San Francisco premiere tickets?

When do they choose the walk-on winner?

These are great. Thanks!

Doesn't anyone else think that Joan's rape qualified as a shocking moment....sure shocked me!

I hope Dr. A-hole gets hauled in for that, plus malpractice and whatever else they can find to put him away.

I agree! I was horrified when Joan was raped by her fiance in Don's office. This should definitely be part of the top ten!

That is a great video compilation. John Hamm makes a great point when he mentions how many secrets Don is carrying at once. Often, when I think about Don's secrets (say, while explaining the show to someone who hasn't seen it or didn't watch enough of them to understand later epis) the first and only big thing that pops into mind the way he assumed another's name and identity. The reality is that Don is always juggling many secrets, and has found ways to very smoothly compartmentalize some, but not all of them. It especially doesn't always work out well when he mixes home with work - Roger over for dinner, Bobbie, etc.

As for most shocking moments, I think it's too hard to pick just ten! Including ones others have mentioned, I'd like to add the oyster scene, Don sucker punching Barret, Don hopping in the car with Joy (I really didn't see that coming!), the introduction of the first Mrs. Draper, Betty's phone call about the lunch gone bad... wow... so many good ones! I can't wait to experience the shocking moments to come in season 3!!!

Betty and the birds is classic and so great! Clint Eastwood moment indeed! It cracks me up each time I see it – that image of pretty, delicate Betty with a cig hanging out of her mouth and the bebe gun.

When Don takes Bobbie by the who-knows-what, that was very shocking AND disturbing. A little much for Don, though I wasn’t surprised when he wiped his hands off. Yuck.

Probably the biggest shock was when Pete tells Cooper about Don’s secret identity and Cooper says “who cares?” It’s shocking that Pete actually does it, but even more shocking that Cooper doesn’t care and lets it go.

Other shocking moments that were not included on the list…

When Joan was raped.
When Adam Whitman kills himself.
When office boy scout Harry does the nasty with Hilde.
When Peggy tells Pete that she had his love child and gave it away (to her sister?).
When it’s revealed that Don is friends with the real Don Draper’s widow.
And who didn’t shout in outrage “Oh no he didn’t!” when Duck abandoned poor ole Chauncey?

Hello! When Betty went in the office of the bar and DID IT with that handsome stranger! Yeow!

user-pic

Laurie! Where ya been, girl?

Glad to see (read) you again....

user-pic

Oh, man, yes! I hated it when Duck let go of poor Chauncey! So hard to watch that scene! I didn't realize Betty's fling didn't make it onto any of our lists... maybe we all just thought that was a given? Wow - major overlook there!

Also, Peggy showing up at the strip club. And I think it was also kind of shocking how nothing was made of that, either. I didn't want her to do it, I felt like I was watching a train wreck and not much happened! Anyone remember the name of that epi? I need to watch it again, since I really wasn't sure what to make of that.

user-pic

SO awesome! It got me just as excited for season three as it did to watch seasons one and two again! :)

user-pic

Thanks SCFan - I'm getting excited for Season 3 - woo-hoo!

MsFab: I too felt queasy watching Peggy come into the strip club. It's like I was embarrassed for her.

I agree with the comments about Joan. That image still haunts me. Specially how it happened and nothing ever was mentioned about it and no other story lines were created that related to that incident - not even a pained Joan. Like I said, it still reverberates with me.

I am a new fan of Madmen I haven't been able to watch every episode. Please fill me in. Can someone explain the deeper relationship between Peggy and Don. Also i read 2 comments saying that viewers felt embarrassed for Peggy when she walked into the???? What did she walk into? Who is Hilde? Someone please fill me in.

Maidenform is the episode where Peggy shows up at the strip club to celebrate with the good ole boys. She struggled that entire story line with not being included in the development of the ad campaign and even though the client didn't want to use the campaign ("It's ours, isn't it?) they still offered a night out to reward the team for the great effort (Marilyn and Jackie - same model - two different ways of thinking of yourself if you are buying/wearing their bra). "Will you think you're still at work if we take you out to see girls in their underwear?" Goodness - I love the writing in this show.

I agree with the comments posted. Joans rape certainly was a shocker. I actually sat through the all day marathon to catch up on Season 2. I began watching Mad Men after a repeat came on following Breaking Bad- another excellent AMC show.
There is one "shocking " event that grabbed me because I am a dog lover. That was the scene in which Duck took his dog and let him lose -literally throwing him out the door. Funny how come no one mentioned to him-where his dog was since he was bringing him to work. I think that scene sums up Ducks character cold and self serving . I am looking towards Season 3. Hopefully Mad Men will continue through many more seasons and take us to the era of Nixon's "Silent Majority" era. The characters in Mad Men are fully drawn-this is one of the most compelling shows that I have seen. It is interesting to see that while much has changed since 1962 much has also remained the same. I was only eight in 1962 so for me I find the period details to be very interesting. My parents would have been about the same ages as Don & Betty - well maybe a few years older BTW-.This would make an great final episode, Don decades later and what became of him.
