Does this show ever get into any of the meat of the ad world, such as the work of E. Bernays and some of the really interesting Machiavellian stuff that actually dominated the ad world at that time? I'm about half way into the first season. I love the cinematography and the acting is superb, but why have them in the advertising world if its more of a soap opera about that time and not actually about the interesting stuff in that field?

Here's a quote from Edward Bernays found in one of his PR books (considered one of the bibles of advertising):

"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society....We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind."

How about more of a focus on this aspect of advertising and less of the typical romance crap?
