Q&A - Missy Yager (Sarah Beth Carson)

Man Men has a coterie of restless housewives, We spoke Missy Yager, the actress who plays one of them (Sarah Beth Carson) about the lure of fake cigarettes, and the appeal of a man who isn't Don Draper.
Q: What's your favorite scene as Sarah Beth?
A: Well, the scenes when she teases Betty about Arthur are always funny. Betty's prim, so it's funny when Sarah Beth acts on that. But the part when Sarah Beth realizes that Betty has betrayed her, that's by far my favorite Sarah Beth scene. Everything changes from light-hearted banter, girly little inside jokes, to something very dark and secretive. You see how people's lives can turn in an instant, thanks to one prank or one seemingly innocent lunch.
Q: Would you be friends with Sarah Beth or Betty in real life?
A: I'd definitely be friends with Sarah Beth because she's fun and playful. Betty is more of a symbol of the perfect girl, and everyone likes to orbit perfect people. You just hope by being nearer to them, their perfection will rub off on you.
Q: How would explain Arthur's success with the ladies?
A: It's a little strange. Don Draper is so dapper and manly -- why make that shift to someone who looks like a little kid on the back of a horse? But I think Arthur is less manly in that old school way. He's more accessible and sensitive... He's also that cute boy at school or work that everybody has a crush on, and you just joke about him to your girlfriends without ever thinking anything will happen.
Q: We've asked this of many cast members but it always seems worth repeating: What's your favorite outfit?
A: I liked the riding gear partly because you rarely see those women outside of their dresses. But I really loved the scene when Sarah Beth meets Arthur and she's wearing a red hat and pearls. I looked so cute that day! [Laughs] I dress like a 12-year-old boy most of the time, and those clothes make me feel like a woman. I wish we'd go back to dressing like that, where men looked like men and women looked like women. There's nothing sexier than garter belts and slips.
Q: How about a fake cigarette?
A: I love those things. I used to smoke a pack a day, but I quit five years ago. I can't smoke anymore, it just grosses me out. But you can take a huge drag out of the fake cigarettes and feel nothing. That's a good thing, because there's nothing worse than watching a non-smoker try to smoke real cigarettes.
