TV Guide Makes It Official: Christina Hendricks Is One of TV's Sexiest Stars

View imagejoan-200.jpg

Roger Sterling isn't the only one loves redheads: Christina Hendricks (Joan Holloway) has been named one of TV's "sexiest stars." The list, compiled annually by TV Guide also includes Dollhouse's Eliza Dushku, Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi and Patrick Dempsey of Gray's Anatomy. (Sadly, none of the men of Sterling Cooper made the cut.)

The actress appears in the issue draped in silk sheets. The magazine will be on newsstands on Wed., Mar. 25. Click here for a peek.

Not "one of" the sexiest...THE sexiest.

"What a woman" (to quote Rhett B. from GWTW)

I'm a totally straight hetero woman...but even I can see that that is one hot chick....

To quote my son: "Well, duh!"

Personally, I feel emerald green silk sheets would have been better in the shoot. :-)

But it's her posture/presence in the show that makes her sexiness (is that a real word?), ahem, an impressive standout. I still want to join in the salute during the "Basket of Kisses" episode.

.....Ritt1.....Oh, that's what I was going to say!

Beyond being a mesmerizing actor and crazy-beautiful in the face, Christina is all about womanly sexuality..... but what sets her apart is her statuesque, regal bearing. She is over-the-top sexy AND elegant.

It's a fatal combination that few can claim, and she could easily be the most smashing woman in Hollywood without trying very hard.

Christina is fresh and original, and I don't believe that Hollywood has ever quite seen the likes of her before. While you could draw comparisons (Sophia Loren, Rita Hayworth) Christina is not interchangeable with any other actor in the business, as far as I can see..... and with her talent, and a face and body like that, she never will be.

Watching her create "Joan" in a million tiny ways is such a pleasure, and defies imagining someone else in the role. Just guessing she has a lot more to show us, in terms of where that came from. Based on what we've seen, if Christina doesn't end up with a nomination next season, I will be surprised.

It's hard to choose a favorite in this series, but I believe Joan might be my favorite character. A very smart, savvy working girl of considerable imperiousness, who has paradoxically been conditioned to undervalue herself. A woman caught between eras….. and running out of time.

Looking forward to seeing what happens to her and her life. More specifically, that Joan overcome the limitations in her life rather than just accepting them.

It might be wishful thinking, but it almost seems like the events that befell Joan at the end of Season 2 were the universal prelude to her getting mad enough to stand up for herself.

Not only was she finding herself in a situation which was clearly going to suck very badly, for a very long time, it was clearly also dawning on her what being proactive and aggressive on one's own behalf (Peggy) can get you.

That one scene where Joan is sitting in her tiny little task chair, outside Peggy's new office, was absolutely one of the saddest scenes so far in the series. Peggy, kind and sympathetic but cool as a cucumber, never looked taller.

However, it also very much gave me the feeling that Joan is on the brink of that spine-stiffening, skin-thickening anger that could liberate her and change her life.

Joan is 33, not 23, and so she really falls into the generation BEFORE Peggy - a much different (and more traditional) generation. It's a toss-up in my mind as to whether Joan will be able to move forward in spite of that dissuasion, but one can hope.

A lot.

P.S.....Did you know that Christina is a natural blonde? "Red" seems like such a part of her persona…..
