Talk Forum and Comments - What You're Saying

AMCtv.com awards its Talk Forum and blog commenters quoted in our weekly "What You're Saying" post with prizes like a Mad Men pen or a Mad Men poster (limit one per person).
The Inauguration was this week's biggest news and Maddicts were quick to weigh in on the Los Angeles Times' reference of the show in their description of the First Lady Michelle Obama's swearing-in ensemble. About the First Lady, magsby13 wrote, "She has a Mad Men figure and I'm glad of that. I hope she'll bring back the womanly body. I'm so sick of seeing these minus-sized actresses with no hips and their fake big breasts." While 485Madison posted, "I thought Mrs. Obama's suit was both stylish and appropriate for the day. The color was elegant and hopeful (sunny). The fact that she chose an up and coming designer combined with 'green' J. Crew gloves is all very symbolic. Her white Inaugural gown also expressed a new bond with our nation. I wonder if the MM writers have been working for Obama on their time off."
There were other fashion-topics this week including silverminx discussing "a cache of beautiful, hand-made aprons handed down to me thru the too-many years" while "rummaging through a long-neglected closet." She plans to keep them "as family heirlooms" but continues, "it would be nice to see the gals on MadMen wear some."
Log onto the Talk forum to join in this conversation or to start a Mad Men topic of your own. As always, your comments throughout the blog are also welcome.

I'd hesitate to call Mrs. Obama's chosen style of dress anything but classic. I feel there is a reason why the "MadMen" fashion is so popular and returning to the racks--though, arguably it never left, as clothiers like Brooks Brothers will attest.
What stands the test of time is simple, universal shapes and colors that are appealing to the root esthetic sense of the US consumer. In 40 years or so--hopefully-- photos of Mrs. Obama's inauguration attire will not appear dated or period-specific, but rather, timeless and with of a quality of universality.
it is nice to see women with real bodies!!!!!!!!!!! the hollywood cookie cutter looks is really gauche !!!!!!!
