Talk Forum - What You're Saying

Mug.jpg

Throughout Mad Men Season 2, AMCtv.com has awarded Talk forum commenters quoted in our weekly "What You're Saying" post with prizes like a Mad Men mug or a Mad Men poster (limit one per person).

In the spirit of the holiday season, Maddicts are busy discussing New Year's Resolutions for all their favorite Mad Men characters. Drink&Smoke thinks the Drapers have their work cut out for them in the New Year (whether that's 1963, 1964, or another year). Don should resolve to "take on a third identity." As for Betty, she ought to "take up skeet shooting and learn how to pick a lock."

Drink&Smoke also has some advice for Mad Men's younger set. Sally should "learn how to play the drinking game 'Quarters,'" and Glen should "turn Sally's playhouse into an apartment." The rest of the their neighbors can also resolve to make use of their time. Francine, for instance, should take advantage of her neighbors' tumultuous lives and "start her own marriage counseling agency."

Zerelda thinks Sally should also profit from her crazed life by resolving to get a diary and "write in it every day." That way, says zerelda, in the years to come, "she will have the basis for a bestselling book about her dysfunctional family."

The resolutions aren't confined to the Draper clan or their neighbors. For Sterling Cooper's newest couple, Jane and Roger, pinkpen recommends the former "find some ruby red slippers and go home" in the New Year. The latter should make it his New Year's mission to "stop chasing the image of love." Pinkpen isn't alone in thinking Roger needs to reassess his new relationship. Drink&Smoke also has some advice for Roger: To "seriously calculate the age difference between him and Jane."

Everyone will have a lot to work on next year, whatever year that might be.

Congrats to my Maddict buds, Drink&Smoke, zerelda, pinkpen!

Your posts are always so fun to read.

Glad you got picked!

Thank you, SCfan. ;o) It's always an honor to be in your company. Cheers! ;o)

D&S...just be sure not to give your autograph to Dry M. when asked ...sells 'em on Ebay, you know...he got an entire $1.98 for mine...and that was for 2! lol

user-pic

she?

user-pic

Oh, D&S...are you getting one of them cool "Fill Whiskey To This Line" mugs? I'm drinking my tea out of mine at this moment. Those are so neat!

user-pic

Was there really a choice for me, SCfan? ;o) Who ever designed that mug deserves a raise! I'll take your advise and hold out for more money for my autograph if (she) Dry Manhatten asks. I don't think it will bring in any money, because no one can read it. I guess I missed my calling as a doctor. "Cheers" to AMC and our cool MM mugs.

.....Kathey, it's "she," silly....

Drink&Smoke, I think they made that mug just for you. Congrats!

user-pic

Dry....ooooops!

D&S, I just gave Dry a piece of paper with a big "X" on it (my autograph)...sold it anyway.

No wonder it only brought $1.98! I can't imagine the idget that actually bid on it! Must have been the staffer from the Tonight Show that gets stuff for the "Sold or Not Sold" Ebay segments! lol

user-pic

I'll drink to that, Dry Manhatten! ;o)

user-pic

Thanks AMC ! Thanks too SCfan. Congrats Drink & Smoke & Zerelda. I 'll have a gemlet in mine in honor of January Jones and celebrate all Maddicts.

user-pic

Dearest Drink & Smoke,
The prize couldn't go to a better person. Congratulations!

user-pic

SCfan,
Watch what you say to my gal, Dry Manhattan! lol

user-pic

Nora, you know it's all in fun, right! (I hope!??)

I was referring to Dry's asking us all for our autographs whenever we'd win something..."Gee....can I have your autograph?" soo funny.

We had a little tennis match way back there with her asking me over and over (again all in fun) and me finally saying "Oh, okay!!!" (mock indignation/aggravation) and "giving" her a "paper" with a big red "X" on it and chiding her not to "sell it on Ebay" ! (as if)

And her finally posting she "got a whole .98 cents for it!" (may have been $1.98!) You remember all that, right?

I would never ever ever post anything untoward regarding any of my dear Maddict buds...but, you knew that, right, dear?

user-pic

And D&S, what indeed WAS I thinking (that you would choose an old MM poster, or pen, etc!!) ha

If ever there was a prize made in Mad Men Heaven just for you, it's that mug! lol

user-pic

Congrats Drink and Smoke and thank you for the recipe awhile back too. You're the best.

user-pic

Thank you so much Nora and Chelsea. ;o) Your compliments are warmer than a hot buttered rum this time of year. Cheers! ;o)

user-pic

Zerelda,
I congratulated you on my blog! And congratulations again.
SCfan,
I know you were kidding and know you're a sweetheart. I was joshing with you! I love all you guys!

user-pic

Yeah, Chelsea, where was that drink recipe posted, do you recall? Hard to remember, I know, as gabby as we all are... or, could you post it if you wrote it down and it's handy? Thanks!

Or.......D&S, if you could maybe post it again,

Pretty please with Christmas Fudge and Hot Buttered Rum and Chocolate Chip Cookies on it....??????? = - }

user-pic

Sure SCFan,
Isaved it on my PC so I'll copy and paste what my good friend Drink and Smoke gave me as the recipe:
"2 oz gin
1 tbsp dry vermuth
2 tbs olive juice
2 olives Place an ice cube and a small amount of water in a cocktail glass. Place in freezer for 2 - 3 minutes.
Fill a mixer with all ingredients including garnish. Cover and shake hard 3 - 4 times.
Remove cocktail glass from freezer, and empty. Strain contents of the mixer into the cocktail glass, include one of the olives, and serve with a mysterious smile.
This is one of 60's Child favorite drink according to her post. Be careful, they are tasty and you could end up iwth your "bottoms up" vision goggles on. Hang on to the floor!
Cheers! ;o)" (D&S)

And speaking of Christmas fudge I made some tonight. But I accidentally over loaded it on the chocolate chips. About 3 X has much as is called for. And they were supposed to be for work tomorrow. I am taking them in anyway and see what happens .... I was wondering why it was so hard to stir.

Thanks guys. I will try it and then I'll sit on the floor in case I end up there anyway.

Always thinking that's me!! lol

Are any other Maddicts posting here, or is it just contest winners? MAD@TV? a-mob-hit? Laurie B.? sniff, sniff......did anyone (everyone?) attend the Dec. 6th party at PJ Clarke's? Did you guys miss me?

user-pic

Well my fudge was a hit at work. Everyone loved it. Despite my accidentally using too much chocolate chips. Like my Mom always told me .... sometimes accidents are a blessing ;-)

user-pic

Chelsea, let's face it...with chocolate, it's pretty hard to have "too much"...ever. lol
