Jon Hamm on 30 Rock? And Is This Guy the Next George Clooney?

Need a Jon Hamm fix now that Season 2 is over? You may able to catch him on 30 Rock since he's reportedly in talks to guest star as a neighbor and possible love interest of Tina Fey's Liz Lemon. Speaking of Hamm, he's already been compared to Cary Grant and now Variety is comparing him to George Clooney. "He could do the sorts of parts George Clooney plays," says one casting director. "He adds funny and charming to the edge and danger he displays on Mad Men. He's handsome but accessible. He has a lot of personal warmth, like George. We need these substantial good-looking, charming, masculine leading men."

Christina Hendricks -- called "the ridiculously sexy and shrewd secretary Joan Holloway" -- tells the Los Angeles Times that she went from blonde to redhead at the age of 10 when she wanted to be Anne of Green Gables. The newspaper also outfits her for an article in several vintage pieces, since Mad Men's popularity is "bringing the retro look around again both on the runways and at the mall." Newsday interviews Elisabeth Moss, who says her favorite scenes were Don visiting Peggy in the hospital ("very emotional") and Peggy getting her own office ("I took pictures of the office door with my name on it").

Looking ahead to next season, the Chicago Tribune discloses that Matthew Weiner will be researching 1963-1965 as he ponders a possible setting for Season 3. "I will try to [read] as much as I can and figure out what's going on and what the country's about" during that time frame, he says. "Because one of my fantasies about this [show] from the very beginning was to show how [the '60s] happened and show how it happened to regular people."

Oh yes, definately, Jon Hamm is going to be a big movie star, if the women in this country have anything to say about it. But, comparing him to George Clooney? Nah. George was a TV swoon star it is true, but it took him FOREVER to get to the big screen and be the "next big thing". I hope Jon Hamm makes it quicker than that. I think Cary Grant is a better comparison, because Jon is funny too!

My sentiment exactly he's the next Cary Grant he has something that Clooney doesn't have that traditional leading man look as well as a great actor at his core Don Draper is a swine but Hamm makes him completely likeable that's rare talent, he has it beyond charisma he has that thing few actors have especially in this day and age.

Jon Hamm is the total package: looks, charm, humor, talent, humility (so far!)

He's the best thing to happen in "show biz" in ages. I wish him nothing but the best!

I wish he had been cast as the lead in "The Day The Earth Stood Still" even though I'm sure Keanu has done a credible job. I have a feeling that "leading man" roles in future movies are just around the corner.

Jon is a unique and exceptionally talented actor; he'll make his own footprints in the business. I can only hope he gets the right roles to properly showcase his talent. Right now, I'm hoping the MadMen series continues for many more years......

You are so right, silverminx---let's hope Jon H. does the "Movie Star" routine in between seasons of shooting MM! Hope hope hope....

When MM first aired viewers were invited to send e-mails to the cast through this board. I sent one to Jon Hamm and suggested that he is the best "thing" to come along since Cary Grant. It's about time everyone else is catching on. (LOL)

IMHO, Jon is head and soulders above George Clooney in all areas: looks, acting, personality, etc. Why does one outstanding actor have to be compared to an almost has-been, anyway? Jon can stand on his own talent and looks and come out way ahead of the Hollywood bunch.

You said it, rozsie!

just had to chime in re: Jon Hamm. I hope that he is rewarded for all the years he has paid his dues in Hollywood.I read a decent interview in Best Life magazine where he talked about his early days in L.A.He seems like a pretty well rounded guy,I sure hope the pull of the big screen doesn't change him.
I agree with rozsie that Hamm is superior to Clooney in talent, personality, looks, etc.
I understand that all the actors have longer term contracts w/ MM.So it's a pretty sure thing they will remain part of the cast.
No matter what role Jon tackles in another production,I will always be fond of his portrayal of Don Draper.....call it a sentimental favorite.

I like the comment he made a while back (think it may have been when he won the Golden Globe) that he felt like "the guy who finally got invited to the party and he's staying all night long."

I just love the fact that he appreciates his luck. Some luck, sure---but mostly talent!
