Season 2 Finale Viewers Nearly Double Plus Three More Awards

The ratings are in -- and Mad Men's second season finale was watched by 1.75 million viewers (with 2.9 million total watching the three Sunday-night airings combined), nearly doubling the number of viewers who watched the Season 1 finale. Overall, Season 2 had 63 percent more total viewers than Season 1. The show also garnered a few more accolades, as the CableFAX Program Awards named Mad Men the best new cable program, Jon Hamm the best actor, and Matthew Weiner the best writer.
Director of Photography Christopher Manley also received some recognition from Variety, as one of the "10 Cinematographers to Watch." He explains, "We're really trying to remain true to the period, so there's nothing we do on the show that couldn't be done with 50-year-old equipment if we had to."
Check out New York Magazine's "Don Draper Likability Index," which uses a scale that runs from JFK ("likable") to Richard Nixon ("unlikable"). In other pop culture news, fans of Mad Men and The Simpsons intersect on Nov. 2, when the cartoon's Halloween episode parodies the drama's opening sequence.
In other news, costume Designer Janie Bryant tells Memphis' Commercial Appeal that the white terrycloth robe she designed for Betty to wear after confronting Don was a symbol of her "being stripped of everything, of having this clarification. She comes to Don like a virgin."In a sad note, Mad Men fan Andrew Johnston passed away last Sunday at age 40, after a battle with cancer. The Time Out New York editor faithfully summarized episodes for The House Next Door blog. He told AMCtv.com earlier this year that it was "instantly clear that every episode was going to have enough heft and substance to warrant an in-depth weekly write-up... I really wanted to evangelize for the show." He will be missed.
