Mad Men Parties Go Internet With Evite Invitations

amc_evite.jpg

We hear more and more about Mad Men viewing parties -- particularly the kind where attendees wear period clothing, use vintage cutlery/crockery and consume old-school cocktails and appetizers. (Chip and dip, anyone?) The Smoking Cocktail blog notes these themed soirees are "a wonderful reason to pull out that fab antique cocktail set you picked up, and your rad 1950's era cocktail plates." Twitter has invites to at least two viewing parties: "Martinis, Lucky Strikes, and cocktail peanuts" were welcome at one and another offered a "potluck of 60's inspired casseroles and desserts." With three episodes left in the second season, Evite.com is getting into the mix. There are multiple Mad Men Evite invitations featuring Don Draper, Joan Holloway, the entire cast, or the iconic silhouette of Don with cigarette in hand. Maybe a modern version of Betty Draper would use it for one of her 'round-the-world dinner parties.

Wow, very cool! I feel so...er, prophetic.
I planned a weekly MADMEN viewing party beginning back in Season 1, commencing on the night episode 1 aired! Having watched the promos on AMC I thought I'd be a fun excuse to drink Martini's and dress vintage '50s (ironically not much of a stretch than what I wear to work anyway, I wear suits-- the styles are so "current" anyway.)
We've been doing it ever since.
Jessica and I even went looking for a '50s "Chip 'N Dip" at Seattle thrift stores but gave up after a while, we could never quite find the right one.
