Mad Men garnered four Emmys when the 2008 Creative Arts Emmy Awards were handed out last Saturday (with AMC winning five overall, thanks to another win by Breaking Bad). The series won Outstanding Main Title Design, while the pilot "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" won for Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-camera Series (beating out Season 1 Episode 9 - "Shoot" for the very same award) and Outstanding Cinematography for a One-hour Series. Though "Shoot" lost for art direction, it won for Outstanding Hairstyling for a Single-camera Series. Casting, costumes, makeup, prosthetic makeup and guest actor awards went elsewhere unfortunately. Even so, these victories make AMC the Emmy-est of any basic cable network so far this year.

"To be considered the best among so many great programs on television is a tremendous honor and an acknowledgment of AMC's commitment to programming excellence," Charlie Collier, AMC's general manager and executive vice president, said. "These Creative Arts Emmy wins give us added momentum and excitement for next week's Primetime Emmy Awards."

Mad Men is up for five awards at Sunday's Primetime Emmy's ceremony: Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Jon Hamm as Don Draper), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (John Slattery as Roger Sterling), Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Alan Taylor for "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes") and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (Matthew Weiner for "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" and Matthew Weiner and Robin Veith for "The Wheel").

If you're disappointed that some of your favorite Mad Men actors weren't given the recognition they deserved, you're not alone. Check out Time Out New York's ballot for the "Shadow Emmys," which specifically honor those overlooked in the official ceremony. Vincent Kartheiser (Outstanding Supporting Actor), January Jones and Elisabeth Moss (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series) could all use your support so vote now!

Sometimes my TV's color will go out (faulty cable connection). I saw Mad Men in black and white, and noticed how rich the images are. They look just like the black and white of the 50's tv shows.
I also applaud the Cinematography.
It seems MM doesn't miss a beat.

My husband and I have watched all of your shows and find this show very depressing. Everyone is an ego maniac, drunk, or looking for self gratification. Why would any of us want to watch this week after week? What is the message? I didn't find life that miserable in the 50 and 60's.

We gave it a try but will not recommend this show to friends.

I just voted January Jones! She is gorgeous and a awesome actress. She says how she feels and dont let Don touch her when she pissed. I love the fact that she is starting to open up more about her feelings and not being a pushover at this moment. Madmen is the love of my life and ironic its a T.V. show that im dedicated to. Keep posting blogmates.lol
