You Could Be on Mad Men - Featured Pick
Now that the entry period has closed, it's more important than ever that you drum up votes for your favorite video! Link to it on Facebook or MySpace, and start emailing as many friends as possible to help land that submission among the top 18 videos that qualify for the finals. Below are some we're particularly fond of.
1. Joan Holloway by Natalie Pappas (Los Angeles, CA)
2. Betty Draper by Avital Ash (Los Angeles, CA)
3. Joan Holloway by Robert Manning, Jr. (Burbank, CA)
4. Joan Holloway by Justin Zell (New York, NY)
5. Roger Sterling by Nathaniel Lawlor (San Francisco, CA)
6. Joan Holloway by Valerie Long (North Hollywood, CA)
7. Don Draper by Jeff Powers (Austin, TX)
8. Pete Campbell by Rob Gorden (New York, NY)

Go Justin...uh, I mean "Joan"!! I hope you win! You could play Bobbie's long lost hormone-imbalanced sister!
Sorry none of these are my favorites. There was a lot lot of distraction with foreheads moving, eyes blinking and blinking and blinking, these people not true to the words--god its was just a couple of lines, can't they be true to the writing? Not believable, not funny! I don't like any of these, there were some other very very good ones! Hope others are picked. I know you didn't like mine either and I'm not plugging for mine believe me, but your choice of these literally make me sick. Not good acting!
I liked yours, Nora, and I voted for them (all 3) I just kinda liked Justin's "humorous twist". I would be happy to see any of yours win (I liked your "Peggy" a lot) OR any of Justin's win. When I posted the above,I sure never meant for it to make you feel bad...I have a feeling that humor probably won't be a big factor in the winning one, however : {
Oh no, scfan,
I was not directing my critique to you, not at all! I just have an eye for acting since I have studied it very thoroughly and with passion and this would have never passed in my classes. So, I felt right in just stating so. You are lovely and have the right to your opinion as I do. I love your Sandra Dee pic and also the dark haired girl in black and white. Is that you? Very beautiful.
Oh no, the pics are not me! LOL I used to be told (30 years ago!) that I looked like a cross between Colleen Corby (a 60's "teen" model: the"dark haired girl" pic you mentioned) and Sandra Dee (the pic I use now) although I've never been blonde. I just thought those pics both were good "reps" of the Mad Men era ('60's) plus they remind me of my "younger days". ha I'll probably alternate them on my posts. I think your forum pic looks like Jean Smart (the tall blonde receptionist on "Designing Women" and also more recently the President's wife on "24" if you don't already know)--I think she's very pretty plus a good actress. Oh, and on your "Don Draper" contest entry, I think you looked like Donna Reed...a compliment as well, right?
scfan,
What can I say, I'm speechless.Thank you.
Right on, Nora. Glad to see someone had the guts to say it. I did vote for Justin, his was the 1st entry that was entertaining and I really hope he wins at this point. Out of the ones left now he's the only only that has any ability at all, imo.
It was clear early on, that the # of votes had nothing to do with acting ability. It was completely based on how many friends & or clever camera/editing...etc. Ah,but what can you expect tho from the general public? They go for that, no?
I said, as did others, watching this unfold.. "surely they aren't going to go by number of votes, some of these are - wow there's no "acting" at all!?" Yet here it is:P
Proof (as if we needed it) that "numbers" is all that matters. It IS a TV show, with advertisers afterall. Just a contest, not a real role.
P.S. I did enter one under Pete, but (wasn't what I wanted) my Betty," that" I really worked on. Got rejected .. 1:04 oops. There were other entries over a min. posted in the contest..one in particular (1:02) during the last 2 weeks. So i tried again - 1:00.02 didn't work. Thought was curious, sigh & guess just wanted to vent. :) Thanks
This “contest” was like something Pete Campbell would have contrived, straight out of a Mad Men script. Its only purpose was to serve its host at the expense of almost all of those involved. This was not a contest that was based on talent, creativity, originality or quality in any way. It was entirely a marketing contest and should have been advertised as such.
Some of the finalists deserve to be there but the majority are there for one reason only; they are networked to hundreds of people who cast votes for them based solely on relationship. The quality of the submissions had absolutely nothing to do with most of these votes. If these people had submitted videos of a dog taking a dump in the park, they still would have gotten their 400 to 1000 votes from their friends/networks. The leading vote getter with 1000+ votes admitted in his submission’s comments that instructions to vote for it had been posted on a popular blog. Most of the other submissions were obviously rigged as well, as they received hundreds of votes within a matter of hours.
A lot of theshow's fans and supporters who worked hard to produce quality submissions never stood a chance in this “contest”. I think I can see where the inspiration for the characters on the show comes from. Don Draper may not have boned anyone’s wife behind their back, but a lot of talented submitters got screwed in the ass. But congratulations AMC; you got your webpage hits. Mission accomplished.
