Talk Forum - What You're Saying

Throughout the run of Mad Men's second season, AMCtv.com will award forum commenters quoted in our weekly "What You're Saying" post with prizes ranging from Mad Men hats to Mad Men posters (limit one per person). Keep commenting on the Talk forum, and you may be one of next week's lucky recipients.
Don's confrontation with Betty in last week's episode had the Mad Men Talk forum debating whether or not his violence was justified. "I am glad he pushed her," said imuvmadmen. "She has been pushing him for a while now." Betty Crocker countered, "I definitely feel for Betty. That's the cycle of abuse -- the abused becomes the abuser, and it's not okay." smp65 looked at the problem from Betty's perspective: "I think Betty takes out her frustration with Don on her son. Calling him a little liar last week is probably something she'd like to say to her husband."
Meanwhile fans were pondering Peggy's child. "It seems to me that Peggy's sister is raising the baby," said ahs1989. Of the larger family dynamic, lorantscan offered, "It's a classic case of the BAD sibling getting all the attention and handled with kid gloves by the parents while the GOOD one gets the crappy end of the stick."
Log onto the Talk forum to join in these conversations and to discuss Sunday's all-new episode, or to start a Mad Men topic of your own.

What I think may be happening here is that both Don's and Betty's deeper issues, as well as those in the marriage, are all coming to a head.
As OFTEN happens in our first marriages or co-habitations.
Unfortunately, it's always the kids who take the hardest hit.
As much as I do not condone domestic violence, I would say that at least Don and Betty are beginning to communicate. The ice is thawing.
Betty is coming out of her shell (her "box," assigned to her by the marriage and Don also).
Don has been around and around with his exotic extracurricular activities, and has travelled the full range of "good husband/bad husband" in a short time. Still he can't find what he needs.
In a not-very-healthy way, they are coming together, but we all know that is something that usually gets worse before it can get better.
