As a Catholic I know the priests are not to respond to anything said in the confessional but when I saw that Peggy's sister had to inform the priest in the confessional what she knew about her sister having a baby out of wedlock or did she didn't want the new priest get a liken to Peggy (especially when he came back to the house to give the written sermon). But in the episode he hands her the egg and says "give it to the little one." She looked puzzled. Maybe thinking about how does he knows. Or the director wants us to make our own conclusion.
There are many other areas I would like to comment, but I am still absorbing the episode.

Peggy's sister knew who was taking confession that day and deliberately chose Father Paul (?) because she felt short-changed on life while her kid sister was always called so smart, pretty and then had a kid out of wedlock. Sort of a Prodigal Son's (who did not repent) older sister.
So she wanted to break any relationship between the two, figuring Father Paul would look down on, be dismissive of, Peggy. He doesn't say how he knows. Doesn't even suggest that the little boy is hers. Just "Give it to the little one." Which would fit for her "nephew" as well. Who he could have noticed when she was holding the crying kid two weeks earlier.
So Peggy doesn't know. For sure what he knows.
Very good observation Ritt.
